New Year’s Resolution: Porsche Polishing
Happy New Year! Have you made
your New Year’s resolution yet? Well how ‘bout we Polish
Our Porsches!
As an Obsessive Car Detailer, people ask me how to
maintain and protect the finish of their Porsche. So I
thought I would share a few tricks of my trade. This article
is not intended to be a commercial for Griot’s Garage,
although it’s what I’ve been using for more than
14 years and it works for me! Hopefully these tips will
work for you.
Step One: Wash the car.
I know, it’s cold out there, which
is why I use a waterless Spray-On
Car Wash. It’s formulated to cling
to your vehicle and break up road
grime so you can safely remove it
with a quality micro fiber cloth.
Please don’t take your Porsche thru
the car wash. I don’t recommend
the coin-op hand wash either. By
Before the BOSS
pulling the trigger and using the
high pressure mode, all kind of damage can occur. Besides,
you’re still outside and now you’re cold and wet!
Step Two: Clay your Paint!
Paint Cleaning Clay removes
all the contaminants that sit
on your paint. To get the clay
to glide across the surface, you
need to spray the surface with a
lubricant like Speed Shine. Now
dry with a quality micro fiber
cloth. Your paint is now completely
clean, smooth and ready
to polish.
Step Three: Paint Correction & Defect Removal with a Dual
Action Random Orbital
You’ve thoroughly cleaned the paint, now it’s time to
correct and perfect the surface. Polishing removes defects
which range from blemishes or light swirl marks to
scratches and scuffs. The more serious the paint defect,
the more serious (abrasive) the polish and pad. When
