Out with an
aim!
Shark Tooth Tale is a charming story
of a young boy who sets out on a
quest to buy the fossilised shark tooth
of his dreams. But what is a shark
fanatic to do, when his mom and dad
won’t buy it for him? He rolls up his
sleeves, and goes out to find ways to
earn his own money to buy it himself!
Abby Klein’s story very nicely
reflects the importance of working for
what you want, and how often times,
the effort you put in makes your goal
(or in this case, a fossilised Megalodon
tooth) even more enjoyable! Ready
Freddy stories are short and amusing
reads. The stories are set within a
family of four, with a sister Freddy
does not get along with. But despite
their fights, there’s always a part in
the story where they work together.
The illustrations that go along with
the stories add to the entertainment.•
Sock puppets
Be it little kids or slightly older kids, they cannot resist
puppets! But as much as you love playing with them, how
about having as much fun making them? You got it, with a
few easy steps, you can become an expert in making your
very own puppet to play with and to show off! What’s more,
if you make enough creative ones to give each one a distinctly
different look and character, you can even hold your own
puppet show!
What You Need:
• A long sock
• Superglue
• Buttons/googly eyes
• Felt fabric
• Thick thread
• Scissors
Get Started:
Take a long white or any other
coloured sock. The sock should
be long enough for it to come
up to at least your elbow. Now,
glue two googly eyes to the bottom of the sock where your toe
should be. Use superglue to stick the eyes as craft glue may
not be strong enough. Make sure you have an adult nearby to
help you out. Let it dry. Next, when the glue is dry, stick your
hand in where the bottom of your foot would be and shape
your hand like an open mouth. Now cut out a piece of felt in
the shape of a tongue and stick it on the bottom part of your
‘open mouth’. You can also cut out different shapes out of
felt for the nose, and stick or sew on some thread to make
whiskers. You have a cute puppet all ready to showing off!
Tip:
You can visit the nearest stationery store for other craft items
like glitter fabric pens, buttons, sequins and neon markers to
make your pet puppet. •
Spinning Wheels
Which little boy or girl doesn’t love watching
the wheels on a car go round and round?
And isn’t it exciting if you can make them
spin? That’s why remote control cars make
the coolest gifts ever! These cars come in all
shapes, sizes, colours and makes. There are
both electronic and battery powered remote
control cars. Some of these cars look just
like the real thing, while others have wings
and flashy lights and are simply out of this
world. Remote control cars are available in
most toy stores. Check out the Baby Shop
on Rd 113 in Gulshan, or the UAE market
in Kemal Ataturk Road, or Boi Bichitra at
the Rupayan Golden Age mall on Gulshan
Avenue, and pick out your favourite!•
Star-
Struck!
The Star-Nosed mole’s nose is shaped like a star! It hails from
different places such as North America, North Atlantic Ocean
and also from cold regions such as the southern hemisphere.
Fun Facts
• The Star-Nosed mole is scientifically known as Condylura
Cristata.
• The star on its snout is known as an “eimers organ” and it
has more than 25,000 sensory receptors.
• The pink fleshy tentacles are called “rays.”
Their tails function as a fat storage for breeding season in
spring. •
