Gimmick Rally Workshop
by Teri Davis
We’ll launch this year’s
rally activities with a rally
workshop and some minirallies.
This year, I plan to reintroduce
the fun of gimmick
rallies.
Class begins promptly at
8:00 a.m. on the 7th floor of
the Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway so plan to arrive a few
minutes earlier. A continental breakfast will be provided so you can
fill your tummy while you read your workshop materials, including
a set of simple rules that can be used for all rallies this year.
We’ll spend part of the morning classroom time talking about
basic rally concepts that are useful in all types of rallies. Afterward
we’ll get in our cars for an exercise in doing an odometer check.
Then we’ll let the hair down and just have some fun with a Hare’n
Hound rally that will end in an area where you can choose a restaurant
and have some lunch.
After lunch, you will experience a tulip rally that takes you back to
the classroom where you will then participate in designing and proofing
a rally. After the final exercise, we’ll have a simple rally to dinner.
Dinner will be at the Prairie House Restaurant on Hwy 377 in
Roanoke, where rally workers and other members of Maverick Region
will join the Rally Workshop attendees. The cost for dinner will be
$15 per person and includes a choice of menu items (see the ad for
the Dinner Social)
Cost for the school will be $30 per person, which includes
breakfast and materials. All you need to bring is a wristwatch, a
simple calculator (unless you’re good at doing arithmetic in your
head), and a full tank of gas. If you’re coming solo, we’ll match you
up with a partner.
Please make your reservations on or before Wednesday,
January 17. I’ll need a little time to make final preparations. Call me
at 940-682-4719 or send an email to chuxter@rennlist.com.
We have several dates penciled in on the 200l calendar for
gimmick rallies. I hope you’ll be joining us for some fun road time
throughout the year, starting with the Gimmick Rally Workshop.
