greeted each and every one of our Boxsters with unbridled joy. First
time I've ever seen 911 owners envy Boxster-ites!) During dinner at the
Brau Haus Restaurant, JoAnn and Robert regaled us with stories of how
they met, Porsche touring in Europe and their visits to the Porsche
factory in the homeland.
Sunday's weather was glorious: sunny, crisp and cool. We swept
back up the peak of Rich Mountain for a fine southern brunch at the
Queen Wilhelmina Lodge then down on the Talimena Scenic Drive.
Arkansas drivers were as warm to us as the skies were sunny: waving
us on, pulling off the road to let us pass, waiting for the whole group
to clear a stop sign before they proceeded. One couldn't help but feel,
well, special.
Oklahoma was mercifully short: we were continuously blocked by
slow-moving, unyielding traffic. At one point we were even passed by a
bicycle. As we crossed into Texas our progress became
wind-like, a series of swift straight runs thru the outskirts of small
deserted towns that were flanked by long and lazy S-curves. We did pick
up one Dodge Ram pickup truck driver determined to live the Dodge
Durango commercial and run with us for about 20 miles but only one
event was truly dismaying. As we all swept thru one Y-intersection
(most of us on the wrong side of a stop sign) we were spotted by a
startled cop with a "Naaaawww, I didn't really see that...., " expression.
He didn't give chase and we drove on, arriving back in Dallas, again,
5 minutes before's Ted's 4:30 PM estimate. Perfect timing and a great
time! Thank you, Ted and Bonnie.
Again, this time we lacked only you to make it perfect. Next time,
come run with the Porsche pack!

From the Tourmeister

The trees were decked out in beautiful fall colors.
For all the members in the Maverick Region who were not aware
of a change in Tourmeisters, I have succeeded Nelson Hodges as the
Tourmeister for MRPCA. We have had our first Fall Foliage Tour to
Arkansas since the change and I hope everybody enjoyed themselves.
Dee Lersch has been kind enough to write an article about the tour,
which I hope will kindle enthusiasm for this type of event throughout
the year.

Bill & Joey Coats were pleased to get to know some of Ted’s family.

The next issue of Slipstream will have a list of tour dates and the
type of tour planned.
Tentative tour dates for short tours:
1) April 20, 2002 - East Texas Wildflower Tour
2) May 18-19, 2002 - Louisiana Tour (Two day tour)
3) November 23, 2002 - East Texas Fall Tour
For 2002, the dates for the two main tours have been decided.
They will be April 4-6 and October 25-27. Details will follow as the
plans are finalized, but go ahead and mark your calendar.
Three-day tours can be demanding on peoples’ time, so I hope to
have some one-day tours and a two-day tour set up. With the shorter
tours, maybe we can draw some members who have not been able to
enjoy a touring event because of the conflicts that can arise with a
longer tour.
Unlike Nelson, I am not computer literate, so I do not do e-mail.
However, I do have friends (Carl Moore and Hill Bullock) who have
volunteered to be the e-mail and web site liasons. They will be able to
