Father’s Day Picnic
by Jean & Dave Frick
The 15th Annual Father’s Day Picnic was held June 15th at
the Copper Canyon home of Dave and Doris Casey. This
was the first time we had attended this fun event, so as usual
the “new kids on the block” were asked to write an article for
Slipstream.
About 40 adults and a dozen children (in and out of the
pool) enjoyed a beautiful day, good food, outstanding companionship,
and a casual concours. There were 5 cars polished and
...After a lot of fun and considerable
splashing of water ...
gleaming across the back of the yard. All were a glorious sight to
behold, but when voting was complete, 1st Place went to the 1974
911S owned by Michael and Michele DeJong. A close 2nd went
to the 1994 Speedster owned by Alan and Linda Bambina.
Arriving after the judging was complete were David and Sonya
Flanders in their red 1964 356.
Another highlight of the afternoon was the tossing of water
balloons. After a lot of fun and considerable splashing of water
there was a tie – winners were father and son Joel and Ray
Nannis, and brothers Karl and Erich Gluck. Father Mark Gluck
joined his sons for a three-way exhibition –tossing around three
balloons at a time.
There was much talk about the upcoming Parade in Florida
and we were introduced to Aubrey Sutton. She has a rare distinction
– she will attend her 21st Parade, even though she is only 20 (she
was 11 months old at her 1st Parade).
A huge round of applause to the Caseys for hosting this event
again and again. Matter of fact, rumor has it that they bought
their place especially for Maverick Region. A sign on the door
said “Tour of the house --$. 25”. Since we had never seen the
“before”, Doris explained how each year between picnics they
had changed or
added to the
house. Her tour
included her
awesome collection
of pineapples.
We were
impressed by
the wonderful
decoration
throughout the
house, and can’t
wait till next
year to check
out the changes
and additions.
