He instructs at DE, AX, and TT. Track Car is a 78 911SC, and the search for a daily driver Porsche is in progress. James is a co-owner of a software development company in Lewisville. Mark drivers a Boxster S and has been a Maverick member since 1999. He is active with Drivers Education, Tours, and Social events, as well as with many Hope Shelter charity projects. Charlie joined PCA & MR in 1970, having a 1969 911S. He's been Pres. V-Pres, Zone Rep, & PCR Chair. He's currently the 914 Advocate and drives the Truxster to AX/TT events. He has a 1972 911S and a 1973 914 2.0. Bob has been a member of PCA since 2004 and is active in Autocrosses and Time Trials. Catch my Draft by James Shoffit, the Maverick Region President Ilove a Parade! Notice that Parade is capitalized. That means Porsche Parade, not just any parade. And rather than being a line of cars, it is a week-long celebration of all things Porsche with a thousand of your closest PCA friends. This year it is being held in sunny San Diego, California, and it looks like it is going to be quite an event. [ed. July 1-5, 2007] There will be the standard competitive events consisting of Concours (the best Porscheonly car show in America, I'd wager), Rally (trying to follow a course using instructions, not a map, and finish each leg at exactly the specified time), Autocross (timed driving event on a parking lot course lined with cones), and Tech Quiz (answering 100 or more questions about Porsche, PCA, and Parade). But there will also be lots of other fun activities to do, such as the Art Show, the Banquets, the Beach Party, the Cayenne Event, Children's Activities, Gimmick Tour/Rally, Goodie Store, Radio Controlled Car Racing, Area Tours, USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, and the Zone Challenge. And there are plenty of other fun things to do in San Diego - I think it is impossible to get bored at Parade. If you have never attended, you can't understand how much fun we all have when we get together. Wendy and I have been to Parades from Boise, Idaho, to Hershey, Pennsylvania, and try to make them all. We did miss the one last year in Portland, Oregon, but don't want to skip another one! Part of the fun is seeing cars that are so well kept, and so amazing, and so rare; but even more fun is seeing the people, the smiles, and enjoying the company of other Porsche nuts. Why am I telling you this? Because registration for Parade opens online on March 6th at 8 AM Eastern Time, which is 7 AM our time! And this Parade, like most recently, will probably fill up, and so the earlier you get your registration in, the better chance you have of getting to go. To register online, go to http://www.pca.org/paraderegistration. Before you can do that, you MUST already be a registered user on the PCA web site. Log in now to make sure you are all set before that day. If you have any problems getting signed in or getting a password set up, contact me at president@mavpca.org. If you are not comfortable using the online method of registering, you may download the paper registration form from the PCA website. Fill it in and mail it on (or after) March 6th. The postmark date matters, because it will be rejected if mailed before March 6th. If you don't have access to the internet, you can call Susan Brown, Parade Registrar, at (760)707-6063 and request to have a paper registration form mailed to you. Don’t mail it in, though, until March 6th. Bill Dawson, our DE chair for the last few years, has decided to step down and enjoy driving and instructing again. We all thank Bill for his wonderful work over the years. This does, however, give some other talented person the opportunity to step into that role. If anyone has any great suggestions, please pass them along to president@mavpca.org. Another role we are seeking applicants for is DE Hospitality. This involves getting the catering and donuts set up as well as managing ice, beverages, and other various items for the drivers and workers. It isn't terribly time consuming but it needs to be someone who has at least a passing familiarity of the track events, a willingness to help, and it would probably be best if the person was not intending on participating in the DEs as a driver or instructor. Our first Lewisville Lunch (2nd Tuesday of each month) was far more successful than I imagined it would be. I figured I would be sitting alone at Spring Creek eating my lunch by myself, but we had a total of six people - Andy Mears, Bill Middleton, Tom Snodgrass, Chuck McCoy, and Dan Ruehs all joined me! Let's try to get even more out next time. In March we have more of the Rallies, Wine Tastings, and our Autocross and Time Trial schedule gets into full swing.
