Maverick Minutes Madhu Rao Our June board meeting reviewed our recent and future regional events in 2011. We have been very fortunate to receive the ongoing support of you, our membership, as well as the volunteers and board chairs who contribute their energies to make these events happen. On behalf of the board officers, thank you very much. John Hamilton, our President, started the meeting at 7pm and summarized the positive reception to our recent events and thanked everyone for their participation. He described our ongoing relationship management activities with other PCA regions, local automobile dealers, and our membership at large. He then requested updates from the board. Madhu Rao, (full disclosure that’s me), described an initiative to survey the entire Maverick Region membership (that’s you) to gain your feedback on our regional operations and obtain your suggestions for improvement. He reviewed the survey goals and format (electronic, 2 pages). He then described the steps to field the survey to the entire region. One such step is a pre-survey email communication you will receive from John Hamilton describing the intent of the survey. Your feedback is extremely important and will help ensure we are delivering a great membership experience for you. On behalf of the board, thank you for your participation. Madhu also described the upcoming Maverick Region 2012 officer elections. The process steps and timeline will be presented at the July 6th board meeting. Thereafter, an election committee will be established to manage the nomination process. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the election committee or any of the current officers. Carey Spreen, our May Maverick of the Month, described the very successful Saturday rally which was held in May. Twenty rally participants drove all over north Texas and ended up at Rancho Sereno, on time. How is that for a successful event! He acknowledged the contributions of Linda Bambina and John/BJ Harvey in this regard. Travis Howard updated the board about the May 21-22 AX/ TT at Mineral Wells. He recognized Wendy Shoffit, who at the last moment, volunteered onsite to help out. He noted that an opportunity exists for more instructors to help the students at the AX/TT events. If this sounds like something you would be interested in please contact Travis at tt@ mavpca.org or Tannia Dobbins at ax@mavpca.org. The board brainstormed about holding specialty AX/TT events (e.g., ladies only, Sunday Drive Tours). Full disclosure: I was caught up in the moment and may even dip my ‘heel and toe’ into this event. Watch out cones, here I come! Robyn Howard noted that a swap meet is planned for October 1. These are great opportunities to get stuff for your Porsche! Stay tuned for more details. Ed Mullenix discussed holding a Tech Session in late Q3 or Q4, 2011. These are great opportunities to learn more about your Porsche! Stay tuned for details. Fresh from a well-deserved vacation (after tax season) our treasurer, Jim Falgout, reported that our financial condition continues to be healthy. Mike Brodigan noted that we are halfway through Drivers’ Education season. He noted that attendance was strong at the May Drivers’ Education event with over 100 participants (drivers, volunteers, and instructors). Mike also noted that reception to the 2011 Drivers’ Education incentive continues to be positive. Yellow level drivers receive a 1 free event after 4 and white level receives 1 free event after 3 events. If you have an interest in Drivers’ Education events or just want to volunteer as an instructor or helper please contact Mike at DE@mavpca.org. Wendy Shoffit noted that the Maverick Region directories have been printed. You can order a copy for $5 at www. clubregistration.net. As expected, the Concours team presented a ‘detailed’ update. Frank Briggs noted that the May at Mayo’s Concours event was very successful with over 80 members and guests. Jack Griffin also described the upcoming Autos in the Park event at the Cooper Clinic on June 5th. Good luck to all who enter. Here’s hoping that we Mavericks earn a ‘clean’ sweep of all medals. Don’t you think my word choice above is very punny? Pat Friend said he really enjoyed the May Saturday drive in his new 996. He brought several new Maverick Region badges to the meeting. Lisa Steele will be distributing these to our members along with some related membership information. Chris Christensen noted that recent Happy Hours continue to be well attended and the new format involving several couples hosting/coordinating these events is working well. If you have an interest in hosting/coordinating a Happy Hour please contact Chris at vp@mavpca.org. Mike Ferrar has been enthusiastically attending our board meetings and volunteering at various events since November 2010. Thanks Mike! On behalf of the board, we always welcome your interest in volunteering on behalf of our region. Please let any board member know your interests and they’ll take it from there. 8
June 1, 2011 Christy Payne noted the success of the recent Concours event at Mayo Performance Center in Euless. Twenty-six cars entered the Concours event. She also confirmed that the Margaritas were excellent (as always). She then described the upcoming Father’s Day event at Speed Zone in Dallas. Lastly, she noted that the Maverick Region 50th Anniversary committee will be meeting in early June. FRIENDLY REMINDER - The kick-off for the 50th Maverick Region Anniversary celebration will occur at Founders’ Day on November 11. Please consider yourself invited! Stay tuned for details. Lisa Steele reviewed our recent membership trends which continue to be favorable. She discussed initiatives to recruit new members and grow our current membership base. If you know someone who wants to join the Maverick Region please contact Lisa at membership@mavpca.org. We always welcome your referrals of new members into our region. John Harvey recapped the recent May Saturday driving tour. A total of 89 people participated in the drive. He noted that there were several new attendees and that one couple drove all the way from Ohio just to join us at this event. He updated everyone on some potential drive locations for the September time frame. Stay tuned for details on these. Richard Bradley is the managing editor of Slipstream. Richard and Pat Friend acknowledged the support of our advertising sponsors and discussed some new tactics to recognize this group. Maverick Moments. Our Maverick of the Month is Tannia Dobbins. She is a real trooper and has a multi-hour commute to our AX/TT events in the DFW metroplex. She and the volunteer team at these events are always willing to go the ‘extra mile’ for you.
