Slipstream - April 2011

Again the signal came to turn around. At this point some
of our intrepid group apparently lost faith and took off
ahead of fearless leader. No matter, most of us followed
and continued north on 2331 to
route 1187. There we turned east,
passing through Crowley and north
of Burleson en route to Mansfield
where we rejoined our original
route. Although it seemed much
longer because of the stops and
turnarounds, by my calculations
the alternate route was only about
4 miles longer than the original one (not counting retracing
distances).
From Mansfield to Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Cedar
Hill was a pleasant and scenic drive across Joe Pool Lake,
up Cedar Hill past the broadcasting towers, and into the
downtown and Babe’s.
Thirty-two of us enjoyed Babe’s very tasty and plentiful
dinner. Over dinner John said that the reason for the
turnarounds and alternate route was that his GPS was telling
him that the original route was incorrect and was incessantly
recalculating. He decided that maybe there was a problem
ahead and changed
the route.
In sum the glitches
were really very minor
and those who stuck
with the program (and,
I think, those who did
not) had a very
enjoyable first Sunday
drive of the 2011
season. John and BJ
are to be commended
and thanked for
selecting an interesting route and for all the organizational
effort that is necessary for a successful drive.
