Ah yes, what
a difference
a
year makes. Last
year we were in
the midst of an
unexpected winter
snowstorm just
before the start of Super Bowl 45.
This year the weather is perfect. Ah
yes, what a difference a year makes.
Our meeting started at 7pm with a
welcome from John Hamilton. He
shared a request from the VFW association
to provide transportation
to veterans participating in parade
on February 11, 2012. Several
individuals who also happen to be
Maverick Region members have
graciously provided support to this
association in the past. John also
described a request from charitable
organization called My Possibilities.
This group will coordinate having
a car show with us at a location to
be determined (perhaps Boardwalk
Porsche). The purpose is to raise
awareness of what their organiza-
tion does and to gain volunteers
and program participants. For

I had the opportunity to attend
our recent all-member party in
Keller, TX. The attendance exceeded
our expectations with 130
total attendees. Forty of these were
new members. The board discussed
ways to further engage with new
members. Our current process,
led by Lisa Steele and the member-
ship committee, is to personally
contact new and renewal members
to welcome them to the region. If

Rob Adams attended this meeting
as a guest. He brought up a good
point about Autocross (AX) and
Time-Trial (TT) events. He noted
that these events may come across
as intimidating to participate in,
yet once someone participates they
are hooked. He suggested creating
a “VIP” tent or having an ambassador
at our events to explain these
to those interested in learning
about them. Thanks again Rob for
your member-centric feedback.
Robyn Howard shared that a
second swap meet will be scheduled
later this year. She noted plans are
underway to find alternate venues
for AX and TT events. She also not-
ed that an AX school is scheduled
for April 15th and that a one-day
TT event is planned for October
2012 at MotorSport Ranch (MSR).
As always check the Maverick
Region website for all of the driving
events scheduled within our region.
Jim Falgout reminded the board
that budgets are due prior to the
March 7 board meeting. He and
John Hamilton reminded the
board chairs to be fiscally prudent
about expenses this year.
Richard Bradley noted that the
editorial transfer of Slipstream to
Carey Spreen is going well. Thanks
again to both of you for making
the transition flow so smoothly.
Pat Friend described that he has
been in contact with advertisers
to ensure that they continue to
see value in advertising in Slipstream
and that we appreciate
their financial support.
Al Silva described initiatives to
communicate the value of AX and
TT events to the region. One such
tactic involves developing a video
about Drivers’ Education (DE),
AX and TT events. He is seeking
production staff to help him with
this effort. I bet there is no short-
age of drivers who want to showcase
their talents! Cue up the Paul
Simon song, “You Can Call Me Al!”
Brendan reiterated the need
to continue to market our re-
gion to new Porsche car owners
with a packet of information
containing Slipstream, Pan-
orama, and PCA National and
Maverick Region brochures.
Mike Farrar mentioned that next
Happy Hour will be at Ruggeri’s
Italian Kitchen. That will be a fun
update to read about in Slipstream!
Mike Brodigan described a
combined Drivers’ Education
and Time Trial event on June
2. He also described a half-day
Introduction to DE which would
allow for classroom sessions,
feedback from instructors, as
well as charity laps. Registration
for the first event on March 10 at
Eagles Canyon is underway. He
described an incentive entitled
“go for four, get one more!” This
is for yellow and white level driv-
ers, including anyone promoted
to either of those levels this year.
Pat Heptig mentioned that the
April 21 DE is the 3.1-mile circuit at
MSR. He also described a concept
idea to partner with the BMW
club for two events in a year. This
will allow us to benchmark other
clubs and “drive” DE attendance.
