2015 Maverick Autocross Series: An Interview with Wesley Lincoln
Editor’s Note: As noted in last month’s
Slipstream, Travis and Robyn Howard
have stepped down from their positions
in the Autocross series after many years of
service to the Region. Below is a question
and answer session with Wes Lincoln
about the future of our popular driving
event series.
Slipstream: It has
been announced
that our previous
Autocross Chair
and Registrar will
take a break from
running the Autocross
series in 2015.
Who will take their
place and head up the program?
Wes Lincoln: First of all, I want to
say that it is extremely difficult to replace
people like Travis and Robyn
Howard. They took complete ownership
of the Autocross and Time
Trial programs for the Maverick
Region. Their leadership, energy,
commitment and overall effort is
first class. They would be an asset for
any organization, and we have been
extremely lucky to experience their
professional manner of volunteering
for our club.
To answer your question, I will
lead the Autocross program for this
year. In addition, I have joined my
efforts with a few other club members
to ensure the continuation of
our program. We will meet them
in subsequent Autocross articles in
Slipstream. The look and feel of Autocross
will change for this year, and
I think we will be very pleased with
the outcome!
SS: So what are your plans for Autocross
in 2015?
WL: In 1967, a group now known
as Equipe Rapide (ER) formed a
club for the purpose of Autocross.
Like PCA, ER runs a well-organized
program that is safe, fun, and spirited.
After much discussion, we have
decided to join their program for
2015. I am excited about the format.
Two new locations will be added to
our list of venues: Lone Star Park
and Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
ER runs ten competitive Autocross
events per year, and seven of them
will be in the large parking facilities
at Lone Star Park.
SS: That sounds very interesting.
How do entrants view the schedule?
Does ER have a website and online
registration? An easy registration
process was one of the great things
about the Maverick Region Autocross
series.
WL: Equipe Rapide has the schedule
posted on their website, www.
autocross.com. This website has
the link for registration. All PCA
members will register for the events
through the ER website. (See below for
the schedule.)
SS: Many Maverick Region members
have not attended any ER
events because they don’t think
the class structure is very fair for
Porsches. Will PCA members run in
ER classes?
WL: The PCA class structure will be
instituted for all Porsche drivers that
do not want to compete in ER classes.
The PCA classes are designed to
be fair and competitive for Porsche
vehicles and we will retain this class
structure for ER events.
SS: Will PCA members have to pay
the non-member entry fee at ER
events?
WL: We discussed this with the ER
Board of Directors, and they were
more than willing to recognize PCA
membership in lieu of ER membership.
This means that PCA members
will pay the member price for all ER
events. Also, ER has a discounted
rate for members that wish to pay
for the series in advance.
