Feni Soccer staring
at relegation
• Tribune Report
Feni Soccer Club are on the brink
of getting relegated from the topflight
for the first time in history
after conceding a 2-1 defeat against
Team BJMC in a crucial Bangladesh
Premier League encounter at Bangabandhu
National Stadium yesterday.
The result has turned the relegation
fight into a two-horse battle
between Uttar Baridhara Club and
Soccer Club. The latter though are
in a more threatening situation.
BJMC, on the other hand, confirmed
their stay in the premier
league for one more season, along
with Mohammedan Sporting Club.
RESULTS
Feni SC 1-2 Team BJMC
Shahran 13 Illiasu 46, Baybeck 50
Rahmatganj 2-3 Brothers Union
Zunapiyo 3, 44 - P Jitu 28 – P, Abbas 34,
Mannaf 58
With only one more round left
to play, the Feni outfit remained at
the bottom of the points table with
only 15 points while Baridhara have
two more points. Feni will face
Muktijoddha Sangsad KC while
Baridhara will lock horns with
Mohammedan in their last-round
games.
Shahran Howlader put Feni
ahead in the 13th minute after
Mahbubul Islam Himu’s penalty
shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.
Shahran poked home on the rebound.
BJMC however, came back to
the game after resumption. Inform
Nigerian midfielder Samson
Illiasu snatched the ball from the
opponent’s terrain and placed
home from inside the box.
Feni’s fortunes worsened when
Cameroonian defender Baybeck
Esaie’s header found the back of
the net following a free-kick from
substitute Abdullah Parvez, who
made an immediate impact after
coming off the bench.
Feni must win their last match
against Muktijoddha if they are to
harbour any hopes of avoiding the
drop. They first took part in the
second edition of the Bangladesh
League in 2009 and always managed
to avoid relegation in the subsequent
seven seasons.
Meanwhile in the day’s other
match at the same venue, Rahmatganj
MFS continued to struggle as
they suffered their fifth defeat in
seven matches after going down
3-2 against Brothers Union.
Brothers moved to fourth with
30 points while Rahmatganj remained
sixth with 27 points.
In-form Congolese forward Siyo
Zunapiyo gave the Old Dhaka outfit
the lead in just the third minute before
Brothers midfielder Imtiaz Sultan
Jitu equalised in the 28th minute
from a penalty after goalkeeper
Al Amin brought down Roni.
This time, Ghanaian defender
Abbas Inussah put the Gopibag
outfit ahead in the 34th minute
with a glancing header before Zunapiyo
netted again from another
penalty at the stroke of the first
half to put things level. In the process,
Zunapiyo bagged his 11th
league goal this season.
However, Mannaf Rabby sealed
victory for Brothers with a brilliant
strike in the 58th minute.•
by 25-22 points but had to work
harder in the second set where
they won by 25-23 points. The
game stopped when the scoreline
was 7-6 in favour of Bangladesh in
the third set after one of the Kyrgyzstan
