2. Expand the Base feature dataset and select the City_Limits feature class. Holding<br />

your mouse button down, drag the City_Limits feature class into the map view.<br />

Once your mouse pointer is in the map view, release your mouse button.<br />

City Limits have now been added to your map using a drag and drop method. This<br />

is one of the methods you can use to add a new layer from resources connected in the<br />

<strong>Pro</strong>ject pane. Now you will need to change the symbology for the City_Limits<br />

layer:<br />

3. Click on City_Limits in the Contents pane until a blue box highlights the layer<br />

name. Then, type City Limits to give the layer a new name, which will appear<br />

better in a legend.<br />

4. Click on the symbol located below the City Limits layer name in the Contents pane<br />

to open the Symbology pane on the right-hand side of the interface.<br />

5. Click on the <strong>Pro</strong>perties tab in the Symbology pane.<br />

6. Make the following changes to the Appearance settings:<br />

Color: No color<br />

Outline Color: Black<br />

Outline Width: 3 pt<br />

The Appearance setting window looks as follows:<br />

7. Once you verify that the settings are correct, click on Apply.<br />

8. Click on the MAP tab on the ribbon.<br />

9. Your map now has a single configured layer. Click on the Add Data button to add a<br />

few more layers.<br />

10. Click on Databases in the Add Data window and then double-click on the<br />

Trippville_GIS geodatabase.<br />

11. Double-click on the Base feature dataset.
