Some of my classroom procedures are how and when students use the bathroom, getting a drink, they have certain hand signals for each one. 5.) What do you use as a quiet signal? I have a triangle bell that I ring to gain their attention. 6.) How does teaching seventh grade English language arts compare to teaching eighth grade social studies? Besides the difference in subject the students are more mature and have different behaviors. The good thing is that I was able to take skills I taught as a language arts teacher and implement them as I teach social studies. I am able to implement reading strategies and writing activities as building blocks for them to get to the objective I want them to master. 7.) Do you see a difference in behavior between seventh and eighth grade aged students? The eighth grade students are more mature and competent, but they still are at the age where most of them are more focused on social life versus the reality of graduation coming closer. 8.) What are your views on assigning homework? I give the students all the time needed in class to complete all assignments. It becomes homework if they do not complete it. I know that they get homework in a lot of other classes and have sports/activities/family life as well. 9.) How do you manage crisis in your classroom? If it is endangering others, I get the other students out of the room. I try to avoid any crisis situations by asking the student to go sit outside or go to the office. 10.) How do you prepare students for assessments? I tell them exactly what they should study and try to have a review activity or game the day before or the day of the assessment.
