87/T Command Post Node.<br />

As depicted in the organizational<br />

diagram (page 65) the ESB<br />

consists <strong>of</strong> a battalion headquarters<br />

and headquarters company, two<br />

identical Expeditionary <strong>Signal</strong><br />

Companies, and a Joint/Area <strong>Signal</strong><br />

Company.<br />

The ESB is designed to afford<br />

network planners flexibility in<br />

configuring resources to meet user<br />

requirements precisely. In keeping<br />

with modularity principles, ESB and<br />

ESB companies, platoons, and teams<br />

may be tailored and task organized<br />

so that only the precise package <strong>of</strong><br />

capabilities needed to satisfy a given<br />

mission is deployed. In the same<br />

manner, companies, platoons, or<br />

teams may be added to an ESB to<br />

meet the demands <strong>of</strong> a particular<br />

mission.<br />

The mission provides network<br />

services to the following organiza-<br />

tions from Phase 0 through Phase IV<br />

<strong>of</strong> an operation: Joint Task Force<br />

headquarters, Coalition/Joint Force<br />

Land Component Command headquarters,<br />

ASCC/<strong>Army</strong> Operational<br />

Command Post, <strong>Army</strong>-level major<br />

subordinate command headquarters,<br />

functional brigades and their subordinate<br />

battalions, including battalions<br />

tasked to support division-level<br />

organizations, support brigades that<br />

have not been resourced with an<br />

organic Network Support Company,<br />

<strong>Army</strong>-level digital liaison teams, Ad<br />

hoc command posts, Forward<br />

operating bases and base/CP<br />

clusters, other <strong>United</strong> <strong>States</strong> armed<br />

services and Department <strong>of</strong> Defense<br />

agencies, and other governmental<br />

and non-governmental organizations.<br />

Mr. Johnson is a team member <strong>of</strong><br />

the Strategic and Tactical Systems<br />

Team, G3 Plans, NETCOM 9th SC (A).<br />

The team oversees modernization <strong>of</strong> both<br />

strategic and tactical communications<br />

systems in support <strong>of</strong> theater signal<br />

operations.<br />
