Rural Writers
This is the first of what we hope will be a monthly
feature from the local Rural Writers group.
Times Past
As I stand at the open window,
the scent of roses, lavender and night scented stocks
swirling past, memories of times past coming to me.
I see
a small girl and her grandmother wandering among
the growing flowers.
teaching and learning ancient lore.
Tending, then smelling them,
Hearing the breeze rustling through
the grass in the fading light.
Memories of other times flowing through my mind,
Walking in snow, or rustling leaves, dogs running ahead.
Baking parties with brothers and sisters, mother and
granny making cakes.
Feeling sad at the end.

Swaffham Community Hospital LofF
Firstly a date for your diary. Monday 8th May will be
our Annual General Meeting. It will be held at 2pm
on that day at the Hospital. This is your opportunity
to come and talk to us about what we do as well as
seeing our Annual Accounts and Chairman’s report.
We always aim to spend the money we receive wisely
for the direct benefit of the patients and staff. If you
have any ideas about what may be of benefit then
we would love to hear your ideas. Please come that
day if you can. If not talk to us on the committee.
We are progressing with the refurbishment of the
“Quiet” room at the Hospital. Future projects are
likely to be the updating of the Conservatory and a
general revamp of the rear Hospital gardens.
You will see that we have events throughout the
year at which we have raffles. We therefore always
welcome any unwanted items that we can use for
prizes. If you can denote anything we can collect or
they can be dropped off at Hospital reception.

• 21st April Quiz night at the Peddars Inn, Sporle
• 19th August Hospital Summer Fete
• 2d Sept Street Collection.
• 8th Sept Social Evening
• 10th Nov Viennese Evening
• 25th Nov Methodist church Coffee morning
• Dec Misc Xmas entertainment
Following the sad demise of our Treasurer last year
we continue with one of our members acting in this
capacity. The formal replacement will be confirmed
at our May AGM.
A coffee morning was held at the Methodist church
on the 11th March, thanks to those who organized
and for coming to support us.
We have just purchased a Fridge/freezer for use at
the Hospital. Thanks again to “Hughes” in Swaffham
for their support. A correction to our last Article…The
TVs were in fact sponsored by Hughes, not Blaines.

August Bank Holiday Fun
One for your diaries, August Bank Holiday Sunday
fun at the Recreation Ground. There will be a
Vintage & Collectors Car Rally between 10am and
4pm alongside a Fun Fair, craft stalls and a variety
of refreshment stands. For the early birds, there
will be a Car Boot starting at 8am. All proceeds
are going towards the finishing touches at the
SK8 Park/MUGA.
