The Nicholas Hamond Academy
Leanne Smart who is a student at The Nicholas
Hamond Academy was recently invited to the House
of Commons as a representative of the Iceni Youth
Members Committee. Awards were presented by
Rob Wilson, MP, which celebrated and publically
recognised the contribution of individual young
people and member organisations of the British
Youth Council for their work throughout 2016. The
day also presented an opportunity to bring together
young people and decision makers to engage in
dialogue on decisions that they care about.
Students spent a day preparing and learning ‘all things
Greek’ about the country’s cuisine at The Nicholas
Hamond Academy recently. They tackled all sorts of
dishes such as moussaka, tzatziki, Greek salad and
souvlakia. Once their hard work was finished all that
was left was to tuck in for the ‘taste test’.
The Nicholas Hamond Academy hosted its annual
Sports Awards Evening on the 8th March. Students
were recognised for either progress or exceptional
performance in a wide range of sports over the past
year. As part of the evening the academy welcomed
guest speaker ex-British No.3 tennis player, Jade
Windley. Jade, who has won 3 singles and 16 doubles
titles on the ITF tour during her career, presented
the awards to the students and shared her journey
in becoming a professional tennis player. The overall
TNHA Sports Person of the Year 2017 was awarded to
Year 11 student Owen Williams. This was not only for
his ability in a range of sports but also his exceptional
attitude towards learning.
Students in the Iceni Class students at The Nicholas
Hamond Academy have been busy assembling
robots out of packing from Fairtrade products. They
researched how our choices in the UK can make a
difference around the world helping promote better
prices and working conditions for farmers and workers.
