Define Electronegativity: Is the ability of an atom of an element to attract electrons when the atom is in a<br />

compound.<br />

Explanation:<br />

Electronegativity values decrease from top to bottom withen a group. For representative elements,<br />

the values ttend to increase from left to right across a period. For example, Bromine has a higher<br />

electonegativity than potassium because although it is in the same period it has a larger atomic<br />

mass.
