<strong>the</strong>ir way free. 1 ~erily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving,<br />

Most Merciful.<br />

6. And if anyone <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mushrikun<br />

(poly<strong>the</strong>ists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Oneness <strong>of</strong> Allah) seeks your protection,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n grant him protection so that he may hear<br />

<strong>the</strong> Word <strong>of</strong> Allah (<strong>the</strong> Qur'fut), and <strong>the</strong>n<br />

escort him to where he can be secure, that is<br />

because <strong>the</strong>y are men who know not.<br />

7. How can <strong>the</strong>re be a covenant <strong>with</strong> Allah<br />

and <strong>with</strong> His Messenger for <strong>the</strong> Mushrikun<br />

(poly<strong>the</strong>ists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Oneness <strong>of</strong> Allah) except those <strong>with</strong><br />

whom you made a covenant near Al-Masjidal-Haram<br />

(at Makkah)? So long as <strong>the</strong>y are<br />

true to you, stand you true to <strong>the</strong>m. Verily,<br />

Allah loves Al-Muttaqun (<strong>the</strong> pious - See<br />

V.2:2).<br />

8. How ( can <strong>the</strong>re be such a covenant <strong>with</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>m) that when you are overpowered by<br />

<strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y regard not <strong>the</strong> ties, ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong><br />

kinship or <strong>of</strong> covenant <strong>with</strong> you? With (good<br />

words from) <strong>the</strong>ir mouths <strong>the</strong>y please you, but<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir hearts are averse to you, and most <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>m are Fiisiqim (rebellious, disobedient to<br />

Allfill).<br />

9. They have purchased <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ayat<br />

(pro<strong>of</strong>s, evidences, verses, lessons, signs,<br />

revelations, etc.) <strong>of</strong> Allfill a little gain, and<br />

<strong>the</strong>y hindered men from His Way; evil indeed<br />

is that which <strong>the</strong>y used to do.<br />

10. With regard to a believer, <strong>the</strong>y respect<br />

not <strong>the</strong> ties, ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> kinship or <strong>of</strong> covenant!<br />

It is <strong>the</strong>y who are <strong>the</strong> transgressors.<br />

b) Narrated AbO Hurairah ~ ..iii ,.,.:,,.J: When <strong>the</strong> Prophet FJ ~..iii~ died and AbO<br />

Bakr became his successor and some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Arabs reverted to disbelief, 'Umar said, • 0<br />

AbO Bakr! How can you fight <strong>the</strong>se people although Allah's Messenger F J ~ ..iii ~<br />

said, • I have been ordered to fight <strong>the</strong> people till <strong>the</strong>y say: La ilfJha illall§h (none has <strong>the</strong><br />

right to be worshipped but Allah), and whoever said La i/§ha illall§h will save his property<br />

and his life from me, unless (he does something for which he recieves legal punishment)<br />

justly, and his account will be on Allah?" AbO Bakr said, "By Allah! I will fight who ever<br />

differentiates between Sal§t (prayers) and Zak§t, as ZakfJt is <strong>the</strong> right to be taken from<br />

property (according to Allah's orders). By ~llah! If <strong>the</strong>y refused to pay me even a kid <strong>the</strong>y<br />

used to pay to Allah's Messenger F J "',!le, ..iii ~ , I would fight <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong>m for <strong>with</strong>holding<br />

it," 'Umar said • By Allah! It was nothing, but I noticed that Allah opened Abo Bakr's chest<br />

towards <strong>the</strong> decision to fight, <strong>the</strong>refore I realized that his decision was right.• (Sahih<br />

AJ-Bukhlri, Vol.9, Hadith No 59).<br />
