From The Editor
Tom Tyler
Editor
I was reading an article
the other day about marketing,
and how there are
so many fads that will
come and go, especially
in food items. I remember
when “low fat” items were
the rage, then “low carb”,
then “organic”, now it
seems to be “gluten free”
is the thing.
I can see that gluten free
may be necessary for
some with allergies or
because of health. But,
we have eaten these
items for centuries but
now it is just produced
differently.
Soy seems to be in a lot
of products these days. I
had to laugh when I saw
“Meatless Meat” on a label.
The article was about
how some items may
claim to be natural, but
that poisonous mushrooms,
and arsenic are
natural but can kill you.
Proverbs 14:34 says, “but sin is a reproach to any people”.
The word sin appears at least 448 times in our KJV and means;
“offense, to miss the mark”. Sin; Dishonors God, Displeases
God, Distances God, Deceives mankind and Damns souls.
God told Isaiah to “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice
like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and
the house of Jacob their sins”. For the past four Sundays I
have been preaching on and against sin and so it will be today.
Today we will consider the sin of lying. The scripture has much to say;
1) God hates lying; Proverbs 6.·17
2) Lying is an abomination; Proverbs 12:22; Lying lips are abomination to the LORD
3) A faithful witness will not lie; Proverbs 14:5; A faithful witness will not lie: but a false
witness will utter lies.
4) A poor man is better than a liar; Proverbs 19:22
5) A lying tongue is short lived; Proverbs 12:19 (but for a moment)
What is your reputation when it comes to being truthful?
Consider five things about lying;
I. THE ORGIN OF LYING; John 8:44; Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your
father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because
there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the
father of it.
A. Three things Jesus said about the devil in this verse., the devil;
1. Is a liar;
2. Has no truth in him;
3. Is the father of lies.
B. The devil lied;
1. About God to Eve; “Yea hath God said”
2. About the truth of God to Eve; “ye shall not surely die”
3. About the consequences of disobeying God; “your eyes will be opened and you will
be as gods,
C. Some one has said; the devil lied so he could;
1. Corrupt man in the garden; Genesis 4
2. Criticize man to God; Job
3. Crucify the Son of God; Luke 23
II. THE OPENNESS OF LYING; Psalm 58:3; The wicked are estranged from the womb:
they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
A. It is easy to lie! Lance Armstrong; Martha Stewart, Bill Clinton and so many more.
Politicians, Parents, Preachers, children, church members are a few.
The book “The Day America Told the Truth” says that 91% of those surveyed lie routinely about matters they
consider trivial, and 36% lie about important matters; 86% lie regularly to parents, 75% to friends, 73% to
siblings, and 69% to spouses.

The rules are simple. A quick look reveals that the
puzzle is a 9-by-9 grid of squares divided into
nine 3-by-3 square blocks, with some of the
squares filled in for you. The object is to fill in
the blank squares in such a way that each
of the numbers1 to 9 appears exactly
once in each row, column, and block.
If the puzzle has been constructed properly,
there should be only one way to complete the
diagram within the rules of the game.
Despite this apparent simplicity,
solving some sudoku puzzles
can be complicated indeed.
“Can God really clean up the
mess in my life? Am I so
important to Him that He would
hear my voice above all the
other voices that call on Him
every day? Do I make a
difference to Him when so many
others seem to have more
significant issues than I? Should
I really bother Him if I don’t
really have much faith? Can
God do a few miracles for me?
If I don’t have money to give
will He still hear me?”
We often hear of God’s power
but question whether or not He
can do what He says He is
able to do. Sometimes when
we ask the question can God
we do so with hope and other
times with hopelessness even
resignation wondering if He
really is a can do God!
In Psalm 78:19 our writer
makes an interesting statement:
“They spoke against God”
because they questioned His
ability when the Israelites
were walking in the
wilderness and had no food.
They even asked, “Can God
furnish a table in the
wilderness?” They questioned
God’s ability to do something
when they saw nothing. But
God can do anything with
nothing. Perhaps they forgot
about Creation : “ In the
beginning God created”
everything- and He did it from
nothing. Nothing!
God has unlimited resources
and might that exceed
anything we can imagine. And
we must not forget His
unlimited love! So, when we
add His resources to His might
and mix in His love then add
His wisdom with the plan He
has laid out for each of us, it
is not “CAN GOD” - it is
GOD CAN!
Our God is a CAN DO GOD!
Lucky Summer Lifesaver will win new Highlander
Lexington – The need for blood doesn’t take a vacation. Accidents, surgeries,
cancer therapies and disease treatments continue year round. Unfortunately,
vacations and more relaxed summer schedules often lead to a dip in blood
donations.
To help ensure a strong summer blood supply, Kentucky Blood Center (KBC)
is inviting everyone to roll up their sleeves and be a summer lifesaver.
As a thank you, everyone (18 years and older) who registers to give blood
will be automatically entered to win a 2017 Toyota Highlander. The Summer
Lifesaver Highlander Giveaway will run June 1-Sept. 8.
Area donors are invited to be summer lifesavers at the upcoming Kentucky
Blood Center (KBC) blood drive:
The Longest Day of Play
Thurs., June 15 from 5 - 8:30 pm
at Rockcastle Middle School on
the KBC Bloodmobile
at 945 W. Main St. in Mt. Vernon.
Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can be made by visiting
kybloodcenter.org and clicking on the Donor Login button at the
bottom of the page or by calling 800.775-2522, ext. 3758.
Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds
and be in general good health. Donors must also show a photo I.D. with first and last
name, like a state-issued driver’s license. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed
parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
About Kentucky Blood Center
Founded nearly 50 years ago, KBC is the largest independent, full-service, non-profit blood
center in Kentucky. Licensed by the FDA, KBC’s sole purpose is to collect, process and
distribute blood for patients in Kentucky. KBC has donor centers in Lexington, Louisville,
Pikeville and Somerset.
