THE POWER OF WOMEN
Davis knew she
could defend
mankind. She
just needed to
summon her
bed, I’d spin around several
times, convinced this would
make me Wonder Woman,”
the Brit, 44, tells Us. “I would
be in the dark like, ‘Just spin
into it!’” Instead she transformed
into a cunning sidekick.
In Wonder Woman (out now),
she appears as Etta Candy, a
secretary who aids Gal Gadot’s
titular character. Gushes
Davis, “Gal is physically and
emotionally strong. Those
ingredients together make the
perfect storm.”
BATTLE OF WITS While Etta
lacks the Amazon princess’
superhuman abilities, she
has powers of her own. In the
1918-set film, “there’s pressure
for women to have their
say,” explains Davis. “Etta
fights with her cheekiness.”
Davis carried that quality into
her own life: “It took time to be
as unapologetic,” she admits,
but, “it’s amazing.”
Davis (left, with
Chris Pine and Gal
Gadot) says working
on the film was “a
magical experience.”
