From The Editor
Tom Tyler
Editor
I was watching a program
the other day about life in Victorian
England and the hardships
and poverty that the
commoner had. The program
had mentioned that when
Queen Victoria died, that the
public went from being Victorian
to Edwardian because
of King Edwards Rule. I don’t
know if I had known this and
had forgotten or maybe had
just never made the connection,
that those time periods
were named after the monarch
at the time. So now must be
Time:
Benefit Supper
And Auction
the Elizabethan era? No, it
was actually 1558–1603.Victorian
era was 1837-1901,
and Edwardian period was
1901-1910. Not all of the rulers
had a period named after
them. Important things had to
have happened in peace, science,
art and learning. The
Renaissance (French for "rebirth")
was from 1300 - 1700.
It was regarded as the bridge
between the middle ages and
modern history and this period
overlaps the Elizabethan
era.
When I hear Victorian, I think
more of the style of dress or
house. When I hear Renaissance,
I think Renaissance
Fair. Probably like most, I had
heard of these time periods
but just hadn’t given much
thought as to why they were
named as they were.
Hello Summer!
First day of Summer is June 21st.
KENTUCKY FARM
BUREAU
DID YOU KNOW?
• The orchid plant has between
20,000 - 30,000 flowering
species, making orchids,
the flowering plant with the
most flower varieties.
• No plant species has a
flower or blossom which is
completely black in color.
Some species like tulips and
iris have black colored specimens
but they are not truly
black in color and are in fact,
a rich dark purple.
• A notch made in a tree will
always remain at the same
height above the ground, even
as the tree grows. The same is
true for its branches. They will
be at the same height forever.
• Plants can sometimes belong
to weird scientific families.
Like the banana belongs
to the herb family. And onions
and asparagus are from the lily
family.
No matter where you live in Kentucky, there’s a
Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance agent nearby
commited to taking care of your insurance
needs.
Proverbs 6:16, 17 THE SIN OF LYING (Part 2)
**********************************************
III. THE OFFENSE OF LYING; Psalm 78:36; Nevertheless
they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto
him with their tongues.
A. Lying offends God; Proverbs 6: 17-b; “A lying tongue”.
It is described in scripture as; Exodus 20: 16; Thou shalt not
bear false witness against thy neighbour.
1. Slander; Psalm 101:5-a; “Whoso privily slandereth his
neighbour” slander here means ; “to wag the tongue”
2. Tale-bearing; Leviticus 19:16; Thou shalt not go up
and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy
neighbour: I am the LORD. (carrying tales)
a. It is destructive; Proverbs 18:8 & 26:22 (*read)
b. Paul called them busy bodies in I Timothy 5:13
3. Flattery, (insincere praise) Psalm 78:36: *A good example; Psalm 55:21; The words
of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer
than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
B. Lying offends good people; Proverbs 13: 5; A righteous man hateth lying:. People
often lie unintentionally by;
1. Insinuation; (to hint or suggest by illusion)
2. Exaggeration; (to amplify)
3. Halftruth. Someone has said; “A half truth is a whole lie”
IV. THE OBJECT OF LYING; Who is lied to? People lie to:
A. God; Acts 5.·4 Sapphira and Ananias lied to God
1. Wonder how many has lied tom God recently?
B. Others; I Kings 13:18. The old prophet lied to the young one.
C. Themselves; to lie to a fellow man is bad, to lie to God is foolish, but to lie to yourself can
be devastating! You lie when you say or think;
1. I am really alright;
2. I’ll get saved later or get right with God later on.
3. I can handle this
4. It’s not all that bad.
5. I’ll do it tomorrow
V. THE OVERCOMING OF LYING; How can we overcome lying?
A. Acknowledge the problem
B. Accept God’s instructions; Ephesians 4:25; Wherefore putting away lying, speak every
man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Psalm 31:18-a; “Let the
lying lips be put to silence”; Psalms 119:29. Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me
thy law graciously.
C. Ask for help; Psalms 119:29: Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law
graciously.

SUDOKU
The rules are simple. A quick look reveals that the
puzzle is a 9-by-9 grid of squares divided into
nine 3-by-3 square blocks, with some of the
squares filled in for you. The object is to fill in
the blank squares in such a way that each
of the numbers1 to 9 appears exactly
once in each row, column, and block.
If the puzzle has been constructed properly,
there should be only one way to complete the
diagram within the rules of the game.
Despite this apparent simplicity,
solving some sudoku puzzles
can be complicated indeed.
Food Addiction: Myth Or Fact?
(NAPSA)-When people complain that certain foods are
addictive or that they are "hooked" on them, they are
usually joking- but there may be some truth to the claim.
According to a new study in Archives of General
Psychiatry, a research team led by Ashley Gerhardt,
M.S., MPhil., of Yale University examined links between food addiction symptoms
and brain activity in 48 young women ranging from lean to obese. They found that persons
with an addictivelike eating behavior seem to have greater activity in brain regions similar to
those related to substance dependence. The study concluded that addictive processes may
prompt eating patterns that lead to obesity.
"We have no doubt that certain foods are addictive," says Dian Griesel, Ph.D."The real
question is, 'What is it that makes these foods so addictive?'"
Increasingly, the scientific literature suggests that sugar consumption may be the culprit. Yet
in the book "TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and
Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust", Dian and her brother, co-author Tom Griesel,
point out that the human body is perfectly capable of consuming, processing and thriving on
"natural" foods. It is the totally unnatural man-made products that are causing the problems.
"The rise of obesity and other modern diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, hypertension, high triglycerides and hypoglycemia, to name a few-along with socalled
'food addiction'-are all the end result of consuming too many of these 'engineered'
modern foods in our daily diets," say Dian and Tom.
Tom adds, "These modern foods are deliberately designed to stimulate and excite our taste
buds and brains. They all contain refined carbohydrates, which, after becoming nutritionally
neutered via processing, are often produced with refined sweeteners both real and artificial,
fats and problematic trans-fats, unnaturally high amounts of dietary omega-6 fatty acids from
vegetable and manufactured oils, salt, a cornucopia of artificial chemicals, dyes and additives
that make these packaged items lethal to our health and addictive to many."
"Processed-food manufacturers know this and create their formulas and recipes with this in
mind. They hope you will become addicted to their product," says Dian.

Is It Truly Natural? How To Tell
(NAPSA)-More and more Americans are making the choice to go natural-at
least, as far as the things they buy are concerned. Surveys show that 73 percent
of consumers are more likely to buy a product if they know it's
certified natural. You should know, however, that the companies making
these products are the ones deciding whether they can be called natural.
There is no legal or regulatory definition of the word.
So how can you tell if the products you see on store shelves are as natural
as you want them to be? Here are some tips to help you find natural
products: *Read the label. The list of ingredients can be your key to whether
something is truly natural. Such things as parabens, phthalates, synthetic
polymers and silicones indicate it's not. *Look for the seal. To help consumers
easily identify products that are truly natural, the leading voice of the
natural products industry, the Natural Products Association, launched the
Natural Seal and certification program for personal care and home care
products. Hundreds of certified products display the Natural Seal on their
packaging. All the certified products have been verified to fit the Natural
Standard by an independent third-party auditor. Among other
requirements, certified products are at least 95 percent natural, excluding
water; use natural ingredients from a source found in nature and processed
within the list of allowed processes; and use 100 percent natural fragrances
and colorants. They avoid ingredients with health risks, don't include animal
testing and have mostly biodegradable or recycled material in the packaging.
Products with the Natural Seal must list all ingredients on the package label.
*Do some research. Hundreds of products have been granted the seal and
more than 85,000 stores of all sizes carry certified products. Check out ahead
of time if your favorite brands have been certified at www.NaturalSeal.org.
A reader recently wrote and
asked a question that many of
us ask at one time or another:
“If there is a God, and if He
is a good and loving God, why
does He allow sin and
suffering?”
A simple answer is that God
gave each of us the
opportunity and responsibility
to make and live with the
consequences. But there is a
liability that came with this
freedom. Even though we can
make a poor choice, God will
not interfere with our freedom
to make it. Unfortunately we
all live with the choice that
Adam and Eve made: it
introduced sin into the world
and we have to live with their
choice.
But it seems that we all make
decisions that are not in
keeping with what is in our
best interests. Consider the
case history of Israel. The
psalmist wrote , “My· people
would not listen to me; Israel
would not submit to me. So I
gave them over to their stubborn
hearts.”
Without choice there could be
no love or liberty, grace or
goodness, caring or
compassion. We are free to
choose what is right and
righteous or what is destructive
and devastating. This is true of
individuals and nations alike.
We have sin and suffering
because of wrong choices.
And why do we make wrong
choices? Again our psalmist has
the answer: “If my people
would but listen to me ... I
would subdue their enemies.”
Whenever we walk in our own
ways, individually or as a
nation , we will suffer from our
“enemies” - whatever would
defeat or destroy us. God allows
us that choice.
♦ If your family is like most, you really love ice cream and novelties-98 percent of all
U.S. households purchase these frozen delights.
♦ America leads the world in ice cream consumption, averaging 48 pints per person, per
year and over 1 billion popsicles.
♦ This country's favorite ice cream flavors are vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry
and Neapolitan; the most popular popsicles are cherry, orange and grape.
♦ The experts at the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) say
you should make the ice cream aisle your last stop, keep your frozen purchases together
in the cart and pack them in an additional paper bag for the ride home.
♦ The U.S. Food and Drug Administration defines ice cream as a mixture of dairy
products containing at least 10 percent milk fat. "Reduced fat" ice cream has at least 25
fat or 33 percent fewer calories than ice cream. "Low-fat" ice cream has no more than
three grams of total fat per 1/2 cup serving, while "nonfat" ice cream contains less than
0.5 grams of total fat per serving.
