pioneering something in your church which could help a lot of other churches around the world? Can you sense this would glorify God and please Him? So, what do you see? You have to own it. It’s yours from God. Vision is about imagining outcomes in the Spirit and seeing them clearly. It’s about dreaming big things for God. It’s about seeing reality before it happens. It’s about seeing something hugely significant in the heart of Jesus that’s died come to life again, like Lazarus. And if you don’t get REALLY excited about what you see, you need to do some more reading, praying, meditating, and reflecting. Write your vision down. It doesn’t have to be too fancy or detailed. Bullet points will do. Write down what you see. Let your imagination flow. Shape this document over a few days. Make sure it’s realistic and achievable. e.g. “I want to see our whole city saved in two years through the evangelism efforts of the people in our church” is not realistic or achievable. Even in times of full blown revival, not everyone was saved in a particular geographical area. After you have received your vision, then you need a plan. So let’s talk about planning. • PLANNING: This is about having clear ideas/strategies/plans about how you are going to make what you see happen. It’s all very well “seeing in the Spirit” and in your imagination what you want to see happen at your church. But how is it going to happen? What’s the plan? What’s the starting date? What’s the first thing to do? The second? Where are the money and resources coming from? Who will you need to get on board? What are you going to teach? This is where you are going to need detail and specifics. If you had to mobilise 100% of your church into evangelism, how exactly would you do it? Dream. Think. Meditate. Pray. Brainstorm. Write your plan down. As you read through this ETL guide, and become familiar with it, you’ll be able to compare your plans with the plans and strategies we have come up with. You’ll then be able to mix and match and choose what’s best for your situation. Every church situation will be different and you know your church environment better than anyone else. You know what would work and wouldn’t work in your situation. After planning comes the execution of the plan. • EXECUTING THE PLAN: If we envision but don’t plan we are just a dreamer. If we envision and plan and don’t execute the plan, we are still just dreamers. OK, where to from here? So far, you know the Holy Spirit is stirring you to do something about the Great Commission in your church; you know why the goal is to settle for nothing less than 100% mobilisation and you’ve got a vision for it; you can see how your church will grow if they get involved, and you have come up with a rough plan to make it happen. What’s next? The flow diagram on the next page shows how you will move from where you are now, to the place where your whole church is regularly engaging in evangelism. To pull this off, you and your church will need to move through three distinct phases and 10 steps, as the flow diagram shows. “ If we envision and plan and don’t execute the plan, we are still just dreamers.” 14 Version 1:8
HOW TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL...(the green boxes show the preferred route) MOBILISING 100% OF THE PEOPLE IN YOUR CHURCH FOR EVANGELISM. WHAT THE JOURNEY MIGHT LOOK LIKE. STEP 1: Attend a "Change The DNA Of Your Church" one day conference (ODC) or hear the content of the conference via a series 4-5 messages on Sunday mornings. STEP 2: Read Julian Batchelor's book (JBB) "Evangelism: Strategies From Heaven In the War For Souls." STEP 6: You are appointed as the ETL. You begin to be coached by one of the ESI coaches. EITHER STEP 7A: your pastor agrees to host a ODC and then follows up by teaching the content of the ODC to the rest of the church over 4-5 Sundays STEP 3: Become familiar with this document STEP 4: Go to your leader and discuss step 1 and/or step 2 and/or step 3 with them. Take 2 copies of a document called "Request to Leaders For a Pre-DNA Change Meeting." Read it with your pastor so you can answer any questions they have. Details of where to download this document are on the next page. The outcome you want is for your pastor to agree to meet with ESI to seriously look at mobilising 100% of the people in your church for evangelism. STEP 5A:You don't get immediate buy in at leadership level. Your pastor wants more info & time to process. STEP 5B: Encourage your leader to read JBB STEP 5C: Encourage your pastor to attend a ODC STEP 5D: After prayer/ time/more info, still no movement? Find another church where the leadership is interested in the Great Commission. STEP 5: Your pastor agrees to meet with ESI to look seriously at mobilising 100% of the people in your church for evangelism. PHASE THREE PHASE ONE PHASE TWO STEP 9: Work the new plan for 4 years, modifying where necessary as you go so as to achieve "the goal" STEP 10: 4 years later every member of your church will be spreading or proclaiming the gospel at least once a week and your church will be truly and biblically flourishing! STEP 5E: You don't get buy in and your pastor is definitely not interested in moving forwards STEP 5F: Find another church where the leadership is interested in the Great Commission OR STEP 7B: Your pastor agrees to have the content of the ODC taught as a series over 4-5 Sundays in your church STEP 8: Meet with your pastor to see how much of the ESI ONE YEAR PLAN you can merge with your existing church plan and the plans you personally came up with on the previous page. Together you'll come up with a new and unique plan which your whole church will work to. 15 Version 1:8
