You too probably feel isolated and alone, like a prophet in the wilderness. 3. THE DORMANT You are a person who is sitting in a local church who is actually an Ephesians 4:11-15 evangelist but you just haven’t been awakened to the fact. Or maybe you once have exercised your gift but you have since neglected it and you feel it’s in hibernation mode. i.e. You have the gift, but it’s lying dormant within you. All you need is for your passion for evangelism to be sparked into life. This will happen through the grace and power of the Holy Spirit when you are exposed to the teaching on evangelism which ESI offers. Over and over, we have watched the Holy Spirit ignite people for evangelism through reading Julian’s book, attending a one day conference, or sitting in on the ESI sermon series on Sunday mornings - exposure leads to ignition. So, if you are wondering where all the evangelists have gone, this is your explanation. They are sitting in your church. Think of the people in your church as matches and the evangelist as the matchbox. Bring the two together under the empowering work of the Holy Spirit and enjoy the fire! “What’s important to realise is that igniting church-wide passion and zeal for evangelism doesn’t just happen. The Holy Spirit delights to work through a true Ephesians 4:11-15 evangelist to effect this end. So find an evangelist like this, and find a church which wants to be ignited into evangelism. Bring the two together and watch the Holy Spirit light the fire!” No matter which of the three potential ETLs you are, what’s important is that you realise that you are a vital part of God’s plan to redeem the world. That stirring you feel within you is God’s call on your life. Don’t despise it. Go with it. Fan the ember until it becomes a flame (2 Timothy 1:6). Take action. How do you do that? For a start, and as the flow diagram shows, we urge you to read Julian Batchelor’s book and attend a one day conference, or listen to the content of the conference for 4-5 Sunday mornings during an evangelism series at your own church or someone else’s church. Your pastor is the key to your success as an ETL. You won’t get far in mobilising 100% of the people in your church for evangelism unless you have the complete buy-in of your leadership. You and your whole leadership team at your church are going to need to work closely together for the sake of the Great Commission.
