INTRODUCTION For whom is this document written? It is written to resource and empower an individual (not necessarily a pastor or a leader) in a local church who has a passion for evangelism or who would like to themselves and their church develop the passion. • You may or may not have “the gift of evangelism.” • You may not even be doing any evangelism yourself but you recognise that the primary responsibility of every believer and every church is to actively, regularly, and personally contribute to the evangelisation of the world (i.e. reaching lost people with the message of the gospel). To read about why the evangelisation of the world is the priority, please click here. • You have observed that mention of this responsibility receives little attention in the life of your church. It might even be nonexistent. Before God, you don’t have peace about this and you feel you can’t let this situation continue unchallenged. • You want to make a positive, strategic, and crucial difference in the life of your church. • The Holy Spirit is stirring deep within you to take action and become part of the solution. If what I have described resonates with you, thank God! Doesn’t sound like you? If this is not you, but you know of a person who fits the description, please - give them this document. They are in every church... We believe there are people in every local church who fit the description I have given at the top of this page. Why? Because we know that every true believer is in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). The Holy Spirit never sleeps in His desire to motivate and empower the believer in whom He dwells to evangelise (Acts 1:8). This is the very reason He was given. Working together... Our challenge is to find these incredibly precious people who want to flow with the Spirit’s prompting. We want to envision, resource, coach, and empower them so the Holy Spirit can work through them to help mobilise all the people in their church for evangelism. As a ministry, God has given us a passion to work with Christians who want to see a resurgence of the Great Commission across the world, starting with their own church. Becoming an ETL... If what I have written here resonates with you, we want you to make contact with us. We’ll show you how you can become an “Evangelism Team Leader” in your church or “ETL” for short. An ETL is someone who wants to be used by God to resurrect evangelism in their church for the sake of His Name. Eventually, others in your church will gather around you and join in, hence the word “team” in the title. You are going to be working closely with your pastor, so you’ll need to take this document to them and get their support and approval for what you are wanting to do. What you are wanting to do is entirely biblical, so expect the full support, buy-in, and encouragement of your pastor. This Evangelism Team Leader’s Guide was put together to resource and empower ETLs and their pastors. Being able to get where you want to go... This ETL guide which you are reading now is like a road map to show you how to get from where you are now to the point where 100% of the people in your church are mobilised. This might seem like an impossibility, but we are working with churches right now who are slowly but surely making this dream a reality. HOW TO BECOME AN ETL. Are you a potential ETL? Please read the descriptions and study the flow diagrams below. They refer to the three different types of people who are sitting in every local church who could be potential ETL’s. 1. THE SMOLDERING EMBER You are a person sitting in a local church like a smoldering ember. The desire in your heart is to evangelise and see others in your church evangelising. You may or may not have the Ephesians 4:11- 15 “gift” of evangelism. The point is you have a passion for evangelism and deep down you know it’s extremely important. You feel God’s call on your life and it’s powerful. It worries you that so few around you share the burden you have to evangelise the world. You will also probably feel alone and isolated because very few people in your church appear to share your passion for evangelism. You have not read Julian Batchelor’s book on evangelism, or attended an Evangelism Strategies International (ESI) “Change The DNA Of Your Church” one day conference. Reading this ETL guide is pretty much the first contact you have had with ESI. 2. A SMOLDERING EMBER WHO HAS HAD CONTACT WITH ESI You are a smoldering ember who has started to take some action and do something about what’s stirring within your spirit.
