IF YOU DON’T GET IMMEDIATE BUY IN FROM
YOUR CHURCH LEADERSHIP.
Often a leader will want more time and information before they
buy into the idea of mobilising everyone in their church for
evangelism. This is entirely reasonable, since taking on board
what is written in this document is going to radically change their
church. Also, your first meeting with them might be the first time
they have ever heard of this idea or considered that it was possible.
They will want to know how it could happen and how it would
change their church. They will need time to pray through and
process what you are showing them and what they are reading.
There are a number of things you can do to help them process:
• Drip feed your pastor, other leaders, and prayer team in
your church chapters of Julian Batchelor’s book “Evangelism:
Strategies from Heaven in the War For Souls. You can
download the first five chapters of this book for free as PDF
files. This makes them easy to download and attach to an
email to send to your pastor. Go to www.churchdanchange.
com/resources/seminar attendees. The password is ‘mark1615’. Once you are ‘in’ you’ll see the chapters
there. This strategy of sending out chapters is crucial. Why? The reason your church has lost its focus
on the Great Commission is because your leaders have shifted in their thinking away from the mind of
Christ. Reading targets the mind. Our experience shows that when people read Julian’s book, the Holy
Spirit works through it to change their mind, which will in turn result in a change of behaviour i.e. your
pastor will put the Great Commission on the centre of the stage in your church again.
• Ask the prayer team at your church to pray for your leadership team in light of what they are reading.
• Encourage your leadership and prayer team to attend a ODC.
• Encourage you leaders to phone pastors who are already making the dream of mobilising everyone in
their church for evangelism a reality. Here are just two:
• Iain Dickson, St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Mt Maunganui (07) 575 9347 or iainpres@xtra.co.nz.
• Ian Pimm, St Andrews’ Presbyterian Church, Hawkes Bay 06 858 8036 or pimm.ian@xtra.co.nz
• Renee Tobin, St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Hawkes Bay 021 535 2486 or r.tobin@xtra.co.nz
• Pray for your leadership team yourself and keep in contact with them regularly. Ask them questions:
• How are you going with your reading?
• Do you have any questions? Is there anything else I can get for you?
• Do you have any concerns/fears? If so, what are they? Let’s talk them through.
• What would it take for you to come on board? i.e. get fully behind this?
If you don’t get buy in eventually, and after you have exhausted all prayer, dialogue, and effort to keep unity in
the Spirit through the bond of peace, change churches.
Find a church which is interested in the Great Commission and the evangelisation of the world.
This might seem like a radical solution but really, why stay in a church which is wilfully living in disobedience
to the priority of Jesus?
There will be other churches which will embrace what you are trying to do, so go and help them. You only
have one life, so use it wisely and strategically (Philippians 2:12).
In the final analysis, the Christian life is not about denominational, church, or loyalty to a particular church
leader, but about obedience to Jesus (John 14:21; 1 Samuel 15:22; Matthew 7:21 etc).
IF YOU DON’T GET IMMEDIATE BUY IN FROM YOUR CHURCH LEADERSHIP
AND THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN MOVING FORWARDS
Sadly, a few churches will be like this. Find a church which is interested in the Great Commission and the
evangelisation of the world and go and serve Jesus in that church with all your heart, mind, and strength.
