Happy New Year and hoping that,
that fella’ in the red suit brought what
you were wishing for.
As reality bites and we all line up to
get back on the ‘treadmill’ of work etc,
hopefully after a reviving break
for all, it could be suggested that
things ‘ain’t’ so bad for the local
Motorcycle Industry.
It certainly wouldn’t be news
to anyone (unless you had been
either hibernating under a rock or
marooned on a desert island for the
last three to four months) how much
pending doom and gloom is afoot
within economic circles. In fact so
much so that one would suggest
that economies are nearly stalling
due to the combined effects of
lacking confidence and the hard cold
reality that most countries of global

economic significance are either in
recession or teetering on the brink of
recession. All that said the Australian
Motorcycle Industry would possibly be
one of the few industries showing little
effect of the economic down turn.
You would all remember our
report in issue 8 how the local
scooter market is literally booming
as commuters are realising the
economic, environmental and time
saving effects these little two wheeled
vehicles can offer. In fact in this issue
a motoring journalist shares his month
long experiment of trading his V8 for a
scooter and admits to being a convert
to the scooter. But there is more good
news BMW, Harley Davidson and
Paggio are reporting record sales for
2008, and for Harley Davidson their
traditionally busiest month, December
