Advocating the Collaborative Approach Orlando Attorney Richard West of the West Family Law Group is recognized on a regular basis for his expertise in to helping couples through the difficulties of divorce and other Family Law matters. Now the Florida Bar Association is tapping into his sound principles and expertise, appointing him, for the second year, to be co-chair of a Florida Bar Association ethics committee for 2017-2018. Richard will help lead the Ad Hoc Bounds of Advocacy Committee in updating the original Florida Bounds of Advocacy, which he helped draft 10 years ago. He will also be lecturing on this topic to Family lawyers attending the Marital and Family Law Review course, which will be held here in Orlando in January of 2018. “I’m honored to be appointed to help lead an important committee that deals with ethics specific to this field,” Richard said. “Family Law attorneys work with couples often going through the most challenging times of their lives,” he said. “When a couple is involved in a divorce, it affects not just them but their children. Family lawyers need to hold themselves to a higher ethical standard than the minimum standards required by the Rules of Professional Responsibility.” The Bounds of Advocacy are non-binding aspirational standards for Family lawyers. Richard was selected as Orlando’s 2016 Family Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America. This was the second time he was selected for this distinction. Richard also was named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Florida by Super Lawyers for 2015 and 2016. He has also been recognized for more than a decade by his peers in Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, Best Lawyers and Best Law Firms in America, and Best Lawyers in Orlando magazine.
