Heartfelt response from Fallowfield resident
Proud Fallowfield resident, Ann Geraghty, has put pen to paper to celebrate Fallowfield and its people,
in a passionate response to the horrific events in Manchester. The Place at Platt Lane sold framed copies
of Ann’s heartfelt poem, and have combined the proceeds with funds raised from a fantastic ‘Great Get
Together Big Lunch’ event held in June, plus the regular tombola and £190 from One Manchester staff
totalling £604 for the ‘We Love Manchester’ Red Cross campaign.
Ann kindly gave us permission to share her work.
We Are Fallowfield
We are Fallowfield, we are families,
We are mums, dads, kids and grandkids.
We are shops and take aways, barbers and bars.
We are undiscovered superstars.
We are Aldi, Sainsburys, Mighty Micro and McDs,
We are The Toast Rack, The Loop, Owens Park and Platt Fields.
We are Wilbraham, St Kents, churches and schools,
Mosques and synagogue, it’s up to you what you choose.
Some of us worship, some of us don’t,
And that’s okay, we can do what we want.
We are English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh,
We are Asian, Chinese, Polish and French.
We are Jamaican and African, Indian and Arab,
We are a wonderfully mixed and diverse demographic.
We are neighbours and colleagues, acquaintances and friends,
This is our area; these are our ends.
We are more than police raids and helicopters overhead,
We are far more than what Sky News has said.
We are more than a headline in a sensationalist rag,
We are more than an association with a misguided lad.
We are love, we are community and from this we will heal,
We are stronger together, we are Fallowfield.
