Countryside Montessori School: A place not only to learn but to grow up
Countryside Montessori
School is unique among the
many independent schools
on the North Shore and has
carved out a niche market
for families who are looking
for an educational experience
that focuses both on academic
rigor, but also on the development
of social-emotional
learning that is the foundation
necessary for the development
of good character.
In fact, Countryside’s faculty
can often be heard saying,
“We are committed to
more than great students – we
are committed to exceptional
adults.”
Countryside is able to
achieve this goal by creating
classrooms that emulate real
life, giving its students the opportunities
to make independent
choices, learn from mistakes
and failures, share the
responsibility of class management
with the teachers,
and be peer mentors, teachers
and mediators. Whether that
means helping a friend in the
toddler class put her socks on
after gym or design a microbusiness
to run in the Middle
School.
Parents of CMS have reported
that after their children
have started at CMS, “They
are eager and excited to learn.
They have developed greater
self-confidence. School has
become a joy for them! In
addition, much progress has
been made in developing respect,
responsibility, and resourcefulness
in our children;
all qualities that will serve
them well throughout their
lives.”
Countryside is more than
a school for students. It is
also a school for parents who
want to consider carefully the
choices they are making in
their daily lives that will impact
the development of the
children’s character and be a
part of a community with a
shared vision for how to accomplish
the goal of raising
young adults who are ready to
take their place in the world
when they are 18 years old.
Countryside just celebrated
its 50th year serving the
North Shore community. Students
can begin as early as 16
months and continue all the
way through eighth grade. The
school has a remarkable dedicated
faculty with very little
turnover, many of whom have
been at the school for more
than fifteen years. The teachers
in the school say that they
always have their minds on the
adults each of their students
will become and what decisions
will best prepare them
for their independent futures.
CMS holds monthly information
sessions. Families can
sign up on their website or
call the school for a tour. They
also have an extensive portion
of their website dedicated
to interviews with graduates,
parents of graduates, and objective
data on how the students
perform academically
during their time at CMS and
after they graduate (see Outcomes
in the menu bar). The
next Parent Information Sessions
are at 10:30 a.m. and 6
p.m. August 21st.
