22ndCenturyMedia.com private school Guide 22nd century media | August 10, 2017 | 7 Intelligent Fingers gathers students to join creative movement Intelligent Fingers School of Music and Arts opened on July 1 and is ready to join with the community to support and foster the growth of music and the arts in the North Shore. At the core, Intelligent Fingers believes that music and the arts hold the keys to unlocking the creative mind and nurturing it to become a guide for a journey of unlimited possibilities. Intelligent Fingers began as a dream of founder and director, Dr. Grace Kim, while she was pursuing her studies in piano performance and pedagogy to the highest degree. Through her accumulation of experiences from performances and private instruction, she developed her life motto, “Passion for music. Compassion for people.” This motto is the attitude that she carries into Intelligent Fingers every day and it is what is expected and encouraged from the rest of the faculty. The school has a faculty of instructors hailing from schools including Northwestern University, the Juilliard School, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Rhode Island School of Design, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Though eclectic and diverse, one commonality shared between all instructors is a passion for both the creative arts and education. Instruction takes place in a facility that is equipped with quality instruments and equipment. Intelligent Fingers is affiliated with Steinway & Sons and all music rooms are stocked with at least one Steinway piano. The school offers unique music instruction for a variety of band and orchestra instruments and art instruction for painting and illustration, writing, ceramics, and origami. Each class has an intentional design that promotes academic success and personal growth. For example, group piano classes are offered in a classroom setting of four students who are equipped with their own acoustic piano. Through group instruction, students not only develop their musicality, but they also boost their performance confidence as they practice amongst a smaller audience comprised of peers. Instruction runs by semesters that consists of 15 weeks each. Aside from registering for weekly one-on-one instruction, students may supplement their learning by registering for group classes and workshops. The group classes are intentionally kept at a smaller size in order to ensure that each student receives the adequate amount of attention to develop skills as well as build a mentorship relationship with the instructor. Intelligent Fingers welcomes people of all ages and experience to join as students. Overall, the school supports the success of each student’s creative journey because it believes that unlocking and fostering an individual’s creativity has the potential to cause positive change in the community. Intelligent Fingers is a creative movement that is working towards becoming a hub for artists to collaborate and make beautiful impacts on the community. The goal is not to produce adequate artists, but to nurture individuals who would be inspired to become outstanding leaders and contributors to their circles of influence.
