Solar Eclipse Event
On Monday, August 21,
2017, a solar eclipse will be
visible (weather permitting)
across all of North America.
The whole continent will experience
have scratched or wrinkled
lenses.
they are not safe for
From The Editor
This looks to be the final
installment of the “Words of
Yesteryear” series. I have
really enjoyed this segment.
I would often find
myself making a sentence
with some of the words to
see if it sounded odd. Hope
you have enjoyed it also!
REMEMBER THIS
LADY?
Irena Sendler
Died: May 12, 2008
(aged 98)
Warsaw, Poland
I didn’t remember her
either.
During WWII, Irena, got
permission to work in the
Warsaw ghetto, as a plumbing/sewer
specialist. She had
an ulterior motive. Irena
smuggled Jewish infants out
in the bottom of the tool box
she carried. She also carried
a burlap sack in the back of
her truck, for larger kids.
Irena kept a dog in the back
that she trained to bark when
the Nazi soldiers let her in
and out of the ghetto. The
soldiers, of course, wanted
nothing to do with the dog
and the barking covered the
kids/infants noises. During
her time of doing this, she
managed to smuggle out and
save 2,500 kids/infants.
Ultimately, she was caught,
however, and the Nazi’s
broke both of her legs and
arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the
names of all the kids she had
smuggled out, in a glass jar
that she buried under a tree
in her back yard. After the
war, she tried to locate any
parents that may have survived
and tried to reunite the
family. Most had been
gassed. Those kids she
helped got placed into foster
family homes or adopted.
In 2007 Irena was up for
the Nobel peace prize.
She was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide
show on global warming.
much and saving so
many.
A. It is awful because of the damage it does; To;
3. Your Society (including your church) *some one has said, “as
goes the family so goes society” and that include the church. Think
of how it tarnishes and damages the ministry of the church.
4. Your Saviour; Joseph considered it an great wickedness; Genesis
39:9: There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he
kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife:
how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
II IT’S AVOIDABLE; I Corinthians 6:18-a “Flee’’
I Timothy 2:22: Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith,
charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
“HOW”
A. Get married and stay faithful; I Corinthians 7:2; Nevertheless, to
avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman
have her own husband.
B. Walk in the Spirit; Galatians 5:16; This I say then, Walk in the
Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
C. Avoid tempt-able situations; Proverbs 4:14; Enter not into the path
of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Verse 15: Avoid it, pass
therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
D. Follow the advice of Jesus; Matthew 26:41; Watch and pray, that
ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
E. Count the cost; Proverbs 6:26; For by means of a whorish woman
a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the
precious life. Verse 27; Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his
clothes not be burned Verse 28; Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet
not be burned? Verse 29; So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife;
whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. Verse 32; But whoso
committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth
it destroyeth his own soul. Verse 33; A wound and dishonour shall he
get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
III. IT’S ACCOUNTABLE; Hebrews 13:4; Marriage is honourable in
all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will
judge. Romans 14:12; So then every one of us shall give account of
What may be that the oldest
"The First Fifty Baptist Churches in Kentucky"
provides a chronological history of the early
Baptist churches located within the boundaries
of the Bluegrass State. Regular Baptists and
Separate Baptists were represented among
the first churches, and the names of Kentucky
Baptist pioneers such as John Garrard, William
Hickman, John Taylor, Andrew Tribble, Squire
Boone, John Gano, the Craig brothers could be
included among a Who's Who of Baptist leaders
in America. Their stories are told on the pages
of this volume.
SUDOKU
The rules are simple. A quick look reveals that the
puzzle is a 9-by-9 grid of squares divided into
nine 3-by-3 square blocks, with some of the
squares filled in for you. The object is to fill in
the blank squares in such a way that each
of the numbers1 to 9 appears exactly
once in each row, column, and block.
If the puzzle has been constructed properly,
there should be only one way to complete the
diagram within the rules of the game.
Despite this apparent simplicity,
solving some sudoku puzzles
can be complicated indeed.
Massage therapy provides many benefits for the mind and body. It can
help relieve pain from chronicconditions and injury, and even reduce stress
and anxiety, which often manifest themselves as physical pain.
Massage therapy accomplishes the goal of pain relief through the
manipulation of the body’s muscle tissue, utilizing various degrees of
pressure and methods of muscular manipulation. These methods are
called modalities, and the modality used by your massage therapist will
reflect the treatment needed to provide the greatest benefit to the client.
Your therapist may use one or all of the following modalitites:
· Swedish Massage: Light pressure over all the muscles of the body;
used for general relaxation and stress relief.
· Deep Tissue Massage: Concentrated, deep pressure that is localized
to an area of intense pain or injury to relieve pain and loosen muscle tissue.
· Connective Tissue Massage: Used to relive chronic tension and increase relaxation.
· Trigger Point Massage: Confronts the original source of pain in the body, e.g., pain
in the neck caused by tight muscles in the back.
· Reflexology: Applying pressure to certain points on the feet, hands, or ears that affect
different organs. Used to address various issues ranging from headaches to digestive issues.
· Lymphatic Massage: Works with the lymph nodes in the body to encourage drainage of excess fluid in the body.
· Cranial Sacral Massage: Gentle bodywork that deals with the bones in the head, spinal column, and sacrum.
Working with these bones and the muscles around them can promote both pain and stress relief.
Many place their hope in the
stock market or the price of
gold or the property they own.
Some look to the security of a
pension or promise of a
retirement account. Others hide
money should the economy
collapse. A few store food in
containers that they have been
told will last for years should a
famine occur. Yet in the final
analysis all of us know - deep
down inside of us - that there is
no promise that cannot be
broken or possession that
cannot be taken from us.
Psalm 71 was written by an
old person. It seems as though
he is reflecting on a life that has
had many ups and downs,
problems and pitfalls. But it is
a Psalm that proclaims the
faithfulness of God - past,
present and future. “From my
birth I have relied on You ...
You brought me forth from my
mother’s womb ... l will always
have hope and praise You
more and more!”
If there is any comfort we
can take from God’s Word it
is this: The record of His deeds
in the past gives us the
assurance of His grace today
and throughout eternity. In
this Psalm the author gives us
a powerful description of the
fact that there is no shadow of
doubt in his mind that God’s
great acts in the past are
sufficient evidence for us to
believe that He will be with us
today and tomorrow: “I
declare Your power to the next
generation, Your mighty acts
to all who are to come!”
What more can we ask for?
Whatever God has done for
anyone at anytime, He will do
for us. He alone is faithful and
worthy of worship. He alone
endures forever.
Madison County, as of
the 2010 census, the population
seat is Richmond.
The county is named for Virginia
Have you ever had a
thought and wondered,
has anyone else thought
of this before? This page
has a collection of different
catagories, maybe
a laughable story, unusual
questions, etc.
Maybe you had never
questioned why something
is, or if something
were different. Maybe
these will make you
think..
Many suggestions
have been made about
the origin of the dollar
symbol $, one of the
commonest being that it
derives from the figure
8, representing the
Spanish 'piece of eight'.
However, it actually
comes from a handwritten
'p s ', an abbreviation
for 'peso' in old Spanish-
American books. The $
symbol first occurs in
the 1770s, in manuscript
documents of English-
Americans who had
business dealings with
Spanish-Americans, and
it starts to appear in
print after 1800.
The word 'dollar' itself
Does the '¢' in the
US cent sign stand
for 'cent'?
Yes, it does. It dates
back to the early 19th
century. Writing a letter
with the line through it
is a common way of indicating
that it is a currency
symbol, and not
just an ordinary letter of
the alphabet.
What is the origin of the dollar sign ($)?
derives from the Flemish
or Low German
word daler (in German
taler or thaler), short for
Joachimstaler, referring
to a coin from the silver
mines of Joachimstal, in
Bohemia (now
Jáchymov in the Czech
Republic). The term
was later applied to a
coin used in the Spanish-American
colonies
and also in the British
North American colonies
at the time of the
American War of Independence.
It was
adopted as the name of
the US currency unit in
the late 18th century.
Things to think about ...
An old geezer became
very bored in retirement
and decided to open a
medical clinic.
He put a sign up outside
that said: "Dr. Geezer's
clinic. Get your treatment
for $500, if not
cured, get back $1,000.
Doctor "Young," who
was positive that this old
geezer didn't know
beans about medicine,
thought this would be a
great opportunity to get
$1,000.
So he went to Dr.
Geezer's clinic. This is
what transpired.
Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer,
I have lost all taste in my
mouth. Can you please
help me ??"
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse,
please bring the bottle
from box 22 and put 3
drops in the patient's
mouth."
Dr. Young: Aaagh !! --
"This is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations!
You've got your
taste back. That will be
$500."
Dr. Young gets annoyed
and goes back after a
couple of days having
figured out how to recover
his money.
Old Geezer Doctor
Dr. Young: "I have lost
my memory, I cannot
remember anything."
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse,
please bring the bottle
from box 22 and put 3
drops in the patient's
mouth."
Dr. Young: "Oh, no you
don't -- that’s Gasoline
in box 22 !"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations!
You've got your
memory back. That will
be $500."
Dr. Young (after having
lost $1000) leaves angrily
and comes back after
several more days.
Dr. Young: "My eyesight
has become weak --- I
can hardly see anything
!!"
Dr. Geezer: "Well, I
don't have any medicine
for that, so here's your
$1000 back." (giving
him a $10 bill)
Dr. Young: "But this is
only $10!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations!
You got your
vision back! That will be
$500."
The moral of story...
Just because you're
"Young" doesn't mean
that you can outsmart an
"old Geezer!"
“The Unfair Raffle”
A man bought a donkey
from an old farmer for
$100. The farmer
agreed to deliver the
donkey the next day.
Come morning, the
farmer drove up & said,
"Sorry, but I got some
bad news. The donkey
died."
"Well then, just give me
my money back."
"Can't do that. I went &
spent it already."
"OK then, just unload
the donkey."
"What ya gonna do with
em."
Have you ever wondered,
if there could be
a duplicate planet earth
in the same orbit as
earth, but on the other
side of the sun, so we
would never see it?
A hypothetical planet
always on the other side
of the Sun from Earth
has been called a
"Counter-Earth". First
hypothesized by the pre-
Socratic Greek philosopher
Philolaus (c. 470 –
c. 385 BC) to support
his non-geocentric cosmology,
in which all objects
in the universe revolve
around an unseen
"Central Fire" (distinct
from the Sun which also
“Counter - Earth”
"I'm gonna raffle him
off."
"Ya can't raffle off a
dead donkey!"
"Sure I can. I just won't
tell anyone he's dead."
A month later the
farmer met up with the
guy again & asked,
"What happened with
the dead donkey?"
"I raffled him off. I sold
500 tickets at $2.00 a
piece & made a profit of
$898."
"Didn't anyone complain?"
"Just the guy who won.
So I gave him his $2.00
back."
revolves around it).
If such a planet actually
existed, it would
have gravitational influence
and still could be
detected from the Earth.
So, why haven’t we
sent a probe in the same
orbit as earth?, I mean,
if it were sent in the opposite
direction as the
earths movement
around the sun, the earth
would come back to it
in 1 year or earlier,
right? Haven’t found a
good answer why we
haven’t, other than
probes are expensive,
and would need to be
worth while.
