A Level 2 qualification <strong>and</strong> appropriate English<br />

<strong>and</strong> maths.<br />

Overview<br />

You will develop your skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge<br />

enabling you to work at an advanced level in<br />

the construction industry in bench joinery, wood<br />

machining or furniture production. Skills such as<br />

measuring <strong>and</strong> application of number, problem<br />

solving skills <strong>and</strong> communicating with different<br />

people within a working environment can be<br />

transferable to other trade areas.<br />

You will learn about:<br />

• Safe working practices<br />

• Information, quantities <strong>and</strong> communicating<br />

with others<br />

• Building methods <strong>and</strong> construction<br />

technology<br />

• Joinery tools<br />

• Types of timber<br />

• Complex joinery skills<br />

• Staircases<br />

• Storm proof windows<br />

• Doors <strong>and</strong> frames<br />

• Joinery technology<br />

• Maths <strong>and</strong> English unless achieved GCSE<br />

grade 4 or above<br />

Steel toe capped boots are required.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following<br />

grades: English, maths <strong>and</strong> science at 4 or<br />

above, <strong>and</strong> 2 other GCSEs grade 4 or above.<br />

If you are interested in construction, but not<br />

wanting to choose a specific trade, this course<br />

will give you an overview of the industry <strong>and</strong><br />

options available. You will develop knowledge<br />

<strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the construction sector,<br />

including essential employability skills.<br />
