North Island Coromandel Peninsula The peninsula is situated on the other side of the Hauraki Gulf opposite the main city of Auckland, and has an estimated population of just under 27,000 people in the combined Thames -Coromandel District. With its pristine beaches, native forests and laid-back vibe, it is one of New Zealand’s most popular and bestloved holiday destinations. The rugged volcanic hills are cloaked in native rain forest, and more than 400 kilometers of spectacular coastline. The Coromandel is a place where bush and beach are both easily accessible. In the same day, you can experience the blue dazzle of the Pacif ic Ocean and calming greenness of the Kauri forest. On the west coast, there’s a never-ending parade of beaches and coves lined with pohutukawa trees (a red f lowering native of New Zealand). The Coromandel Outdoor Adventure program is situated in the Coromandel Peninsula which lies east of Auckland. The eastern side of the Coromandel is furnished with an amazing collection of white sand and surf beaches, and an impressive heavily forested mountain range runs right up the middle of the peninsula. North Island Tongariro The Tongariro Outdoor Adventure Program is located in a beautiful wilderness area of the Central North Island adjacent to the Tongariro National Park. Tongariro offers an inf inite variety of natural environments f illed with volcanic features, lakes, rivers, mountains and native bush, providing life changing experiences that are fun and expertly managed. Established in 1887 Tongariro was the f irst National Park in New Zealand. It is also a dual World Heritage area, recognizing the Park’s important Maori cultural and spiritual associations, as well as its outstanding volcanic features in an area surrounded by lakes, rivers, mountains and native bush. Tongariro is New Zealand’s oldest National Park and a dual World Heritage area recognizing Maori associations as well as its outstanding volcanic features. Activities during the week include kayaking, rock climbing, caving, abseiling, f lying fox, low ropes, mastering high ropes, learning bush skills, Canadian canoeing, mountain and bush tramping, camping, overnight expeditions as well as hiking New Zealand’s most stunning mountains.
