T E R As a life coach, I work with many people who come to me seeking ways to be happier, feel better and live a more joyous life. A first step in guiding clients toward their goals and dreams - is to uncover and examine their beliefs about life. Beliefs are simply ideas that we have accepted as truth. By the time that we are just 5 years old, we have a complete belief system from which we operate and live our lives. As children, we soaked up information about life, how it seems to work and our potential from the adults around us. If for example, your parents were happy, had worked on themselves, and dissolved their fears and limitations - then chances are they passed on some wonderful beliefs to you. If the adults around you were angry, frightened, unkind or even abusive, then it’s highly likely that you picked up some very negative beliefs that are perhaps getting in the way in your adult life. This is not to create blame or guilt in any way - because we need to embrace the idea that everyone is always doing the best they can with the knowledge, awareness, wisdom and understanding that they have at the time. No one gets it “right” all the time. “It’s only when we know better that we can do better” - as the poet Maya Angelou once wrote. That is why for me - personal growth and the
