As a life coach, I work with many people<br />
who come to me seeking ways to be<br />
happier, feel better and live a more joyous<br />
life. A first step in guiding clients toward<br />
their goals and dreams - is to uncover and<br />
examine their beliefs about life. Beliefs<br />
are simply ideas that we have accepted as<br />
truth. By the time that we are just 5 years<br />
old, we have a complete belief system<br />
from which we operate and live our lives.<br />
As children, we soaked up information<br />
about life, how it seems to work and our<br />
potential from the adults around us. If for<br />
example, your parents were happy, had<br />
worked on themselves, and dissolved their<br />
fears and limitations - then chances are<br />
they passed on some wonderful beliefs<br />
to you. If the adults around you were<br />
angry, frightened, unkind or even abusive,<br />
then it’s highly likely that you picked<br />
up some very negative beliefs that are<br />
perhaps getting in the way in your adult<br />
life. This is not to create blame or guilt in<br />
any way - because we need to embrace<br />
the idea that everyone is always doing<br />
the best they can with the knowledge,<br />
awareness, wisdom and understanding<br />
that they have at the time. No one gets<br />
it “right” all the time. “It’s only when we<br />
know better that we can do better” - as<br />
the poet Maya Angelou once wrote. That<br />
