“fashion is the second largest polluting industry
on our planet, my dream would
be for that to change,”
advancements in fashion and industry, practices
to make things that are just as good. There are a
lot of fake furs out there now which people can’t
tell if they are real or not.
In your opinion what is the most important thing
to look for in ethical fashion?
It’s really hard for me to choose one thing, I
would just say do your best to buy ethical when
you can. Don’t beat yourself up about it but when
theres an ethical choice make it.
Some people think that ethical fashion can be too
expensive, how would you respond to this?
Quality products do come at a premium. Buy less
but better quality, this way you have clothing that
lasts and doesn’t misshape.
Could you name three ways of shopping more
ethically?
Shop Vintage, You can shop in charity shops for
clothes that are nearly new or sometimes they
are new and still have the tags on. Also check out
kilo event sales.
Buy less but better quality items from sustainable
brands such as Peopletree. Look for the labels
and logos, so there is the certified fair trade logo,
soil association logo for organic. Keep your eyes
peeled.
Start shopping in your wardrobe first because
you will probably rediscover things that you
didn’t realise you had. You will also have it fresh
in your mind what you already own so only look
for items that go with them, rather than buying
blind and impulse buying.
Are you the change that you want to see in the
world?
I believe that I am the change that I want to see
in the world and I believe that if everybody made
a pledge to themselves to make a change and be
the change then we will see the change - A more
sustainable future. No ones perfect but you’ve
just got to do your best.
Do you have a favourite quote?
“Theres no beauty in the finest clothes if they create
hunger and unhappiness”
(Gandhi)
“He who can no longer stand wrapped in ore is as
good as dead and his eyes are closed”
(Einstein)
To me this means slow down. No one has time
these days to take in the beauty that surrounds
us and take in the positive things out there.
What is your dream?
I have so many it’s hard to answer
The problem is that fashion is the second largest
polluting industry on our planet, my dream
would be for that to change, for ethical fashion
to become the norm, for people to live cleaner
lifestyles and for everyone in the world to benefit
from one another.
