High-schoolers gave out candy to those who dressed in their costumes, and prizes were awarded to the best costumes from elementary, middle and high school. Children attending The Crenshaw School get into the Halloween spirit by donning their costumes. Christ The King Lutheran PreSchool boasts many pets that spend time at the school. They have a rabbit, fish, tarantula and rats. Also, the school’s mascot is a tortoise named Tasha. As part of a national campaign, Holy Family Catholic School participated in Red Ribbon Week. Not only was the school decorated with red ribbons, but so was the entire student body. The children sported red ribbons to symbolize their pledge to stay drug-free. Mclean and Deputy Smith from Orange County Sheriff’s Office, as well as an FBI expert. Organized by Taylor Cattoor, guidance counselor, each presentation was tailored to an age group and discussed appropriate topics, ranging from making healthy choices and safety to bullying and staying away from drugs and alcohol. Though Red Ribbon x November 16 — December 6, 2017 x 37 Week lasts only a week, the valuable lessons learned will hopefully last a lifetime. A-1 Auto Transport is offering scholarships to high school and college students who are enrolled full-time or part-time at an accredited institute, truck driving school or other logistics program. Three awards worth $1,000, $500 and $250 are given each year. Applicants must write a 1,000-word essay about a topic related to A-1 Auto Transport’s site. The deadline to apply is March 10, 2018. For the 12th year, the Orange County Public Schools Service Learning Program and the Global Peace Film Festival partnered to copresent the Student Peace Art Exhibit, which gives students an opportunity to discuss and reflect upon conflict resolution and peace every year — whether it be about their own peace or something they’ve seen on the news. Art is a way for students to express their views of what peace means to them and to offer their own ideas of how to promote peace in their schools. During the exhibit unveiling, students learned about any placed recognition, as well as best of show. Nearly 200 pieces were on display in the Orlando City Hall Rotunda for one week.
