Henry was unwilling to give up the idea of
sending a small sum of money to Jemmy Stubbins.

more than a dollar ; and that this, though a little
sum, would yet aid Jemmy in completing his

"Well," said his mother, "send it if you
choose. Your father and I are both perfectly
willing. At least I am. Your father's objection
to giving money was not intended to apply to
such a case as that of Jemmy Stubbins. In
this you are a little mistaken. He was only
talking about giving money to those common
street-beggars with whom we are of late so much
