First-time win thrills Tai Tapu bowlers • By Karolyn Boon TAI TAPU have won Ellesmere Bowls’ Chatterton Cup competition for the first time in its 11-year history Going into the last round on Saturday there was still a chance that Diamond Harbour could take out the competition. But when Tai Tapu trounced Leeston 2 by four games to none in trying conditions it gave them an overall score of 54, ahead of Diamond Harbour’s 49. The win was a big reward for the small club of 29 members that includes social players. A factor in the win is surely being able to keep the same combinations each week. It is the first time that Tai Tapu have managed to win this trophy and they are thrilled to do so. Results Rooster: Lincoln 2, 4 beat Southbridge, 2; Tai Tapu, 4 beat Leeston, 2.
