Another Tai Tapu historic
landmark has been restored to
its former glory.
The Tai Tapu Hotel, which
has had a connection with the
area since 1856, experienced
damage in the Christchurch
earthquakes. Renovations are
now complete. These included
new chimneys and roof, relevelling
of floors, a facelift and
demolition of the old garage
making way for a new purpose
built function venue.
This new function room
means that the hotel can provide
large groups with their own separate space,
making this an ideal venue for a wedding,
21st or another really special occasion with
full catering and bar provided.
Finishing off the repairs was the refitting
of the hotel’s canopy taken down for replastering
of the hotel exterior.
Tai Tapu is a destination for leisure, its
history, boutique shopping and great food,
and the Tai Tapu Hotel caters for people
wanting to take time out from their busy day
or just wanting to chill. This country hotel,
sitting near the Halswell River on three acres,
is surrounded by farmland with a backdrop
of trees and the Port Hills. Its picturesque
setting makes it a perfect place to
relax over a quiet drink, platter
or meal while the restaurant
can cater for small and large
groups.
There is an all-day menu and
light meal options from fresh
salads to a wide selection of
meals. Whether it is comfort
food like lamb or pork belly
you want or gourmet, they
have it on the menu. They are
rated for their spare ribs, with
other popular dishes including
their Steak options and Roasted Akaroa
Salmon.
If wanting good food without paying a
fortune, the Tai Tapu Hotel is the place to
go. They cover all dining options whether
for individuals or couples, groups or special
occasions. Meal options range from a la carte
through to set menus or buffet and canapes.
You can have several courses, starting with
a delicious Seafood Chowder then main
and delectable homemade dessert, with the
Tiramisu or Cheesecake pudding not to be
missed, or a snack. There is something for
everyone.
A wide range of dishes to share are also on
the menu with the seafood platter a must,
along with plenty of other options including
house made crab cakes and corn fritters, and
pizzas that are also available as takeaways.
‘The Tap’s’ emphasis is on providing a truly
memorable hospitality experience, great
Gastro Pub serving fresh New Zealand food,
great beers, local wines and good coffee.
The Tai Tapu Hotel is open seven days
from 11am to late. The restaurant is open
from 12 noon for lunch and dinner (seating
up until 8pm).
