Christchurch has a rich history<br />

of brass, silver and pipe bands<br />

with many achieving national and<br />

international awards. Join them<br />

locations around the city. Bring<br />

a picnic rug or chair and relax<br />

in the parks and gardens. <strong>The</strong><br />

ART IN PIECES<br />

A group of artists, based in<br />

Christchurch, have been creating<br />

mosaics for several years<br />

between them. Art in Pieces<br />

is their first public exhibition<br />

as the Christchurch Mosaic<br />

Community. <strong>The</strong>y aim to give<br />

the viewer an insight into the<br />

world of mosaics as an art form,<br />

as well as the more well-known<br />

craft form. Each mosaicist has<br />

their own unique style and uses<br />

many different materials to<br />

accentuate their passion for this<br />

creative expression. Entry to this<br />

exhibition is free, with many<br />

pieces for sale.<br />

DIVERSE WOMEN<br />

This exhibition pays tribute to<br />

the many aspects of women.<br />

<strong>The</strong> collection of art has been<br />

created by women ranging in<br />

age and ability. <strong>The</strong> youngest<br />

exhibitor is 10 and the oldest is<br />

more than ‘three-score-and-ten.’<br />

<strong>The</strong> exhibition is a tribute to the<br />

many facets of women’s art – the<br />

perfect, imperfect and everything<br />

in between. <strong>The</strong> gallery and this<br />

showcase will be open today<br />

Have fun learning a new skill<br />

or showing off your talent at the<br />

skate jam. Cheapskates Skate<br />

Skool will run the event to<br />

encourage children and young<br />

people to take up skate boarding.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re will be free gear hire and<br />

experienced coaches on hand to<br />

help beginners and anyone that<br />

wants to improve their skills.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re will also be a free sausage<br />

for the kids that work up an<br />

appetite while skating. Don’t<br />

miss the chance to win prizes for<br />

showing off your best moves. If<br />

it’s wet, the cancellation day will<br />

be February 4.<br />

Imagination Station will celebrate<br />

World Lego Day with some<br />

creatures from a galaxy far, far<br />

away. Classic <strong>Star</strong> Wars creatures<br />

will visit the event to celebrate.<br />

Stormtroppers and other famous<br />

characters will be there for<br />

photos, just take a gold coin. Meet<br />

other interesting creatures and<br />

enjoy a fun and imaginative day<br />

out. All donations go towards<br />

keeping the Imagination Station<br />
