Christchurch has a rich history
of brass, silver and pipe bands
with many achieving national and
international awards. Join them
on Sunday afternoons throughout
January, February and March in
locations around the city. Bring
a picnic rug or chair and relax

New Brighton Silver Band will be
performing.

ART IN PIECES
A group of artists, based in
Christchurch, have been creating
mosaics for several years
between them. Art in Pieces
is their first public exhibition
as the Christchurch Mosaic
Community. They aim to give
the viewer an insight into the
world of mosaics as an art form,
as well as the more well-known
craft form. Each mosaicist has
their own unique style and uses
many different materials to
accentuate their passion for this
creative expression. Entry to this
exhibition is free, with many
pieces for sale.

DIVERSE WOMEN
This exhibition pays tribute to
the many aspects of women.
The collection of art has been
created by women ranging in
age and ability. The youngest
exhibitor is 10 and the oldest is
more than ‘three-score-and-ten.’
The exhibition is a tribute to the
many facets of women’s art – the
perfect, imperfect and everything
in between. The gallery and this
showcase will be open today
and tomorrow, 11am-4pm, and
Saturday, noon-3pm.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
Take the children along to a
live theatre performance to beat
the school holiday boredom.
This production of Jack and the
Beanstalk will bring to life all the
beloved characters of the original
tale, including the adventurous
Jack and his best friend Daisy
the Cow. The show combines
slapstick comedy, music and
puppetry to keep the audience
entertained.

Have fun learning a new skill
or showing off your talent at the
skate jam. Cheapskates Skate
Skool will run the event to
encourage children and young
people to take up skate boarding.
There will be free gear hire and
experienced coaches on hand to
help beginners and anyone that
wants to improve their skills.
There will also be a free sausage
for the kids that work up an
appetite while skating. Don’t
miss the chance to win prizes for
showing off your best moves. If
it’s wet, the cancellation day will
be February 4.

CELEBRATE
INTERNATIONAL LEGO DAY
Imagination Station will celebrate
World Lego Day with some
creatures from a galaxy far, far
away. Classic Star Wars creatures
will visit the event to celebrate.
Stormtroppers and other famous
characters will be there for
photos, just take a gold coin. Meet
other interesting creatures and
enjoy a fun and imaginative day
out. All donations go towards
keeping the Imagination Station
running.
