SELWYN TIMES Latest Christchurch news at www. .kiwi Tuesday March 21 2017 7 ews Lincoln students in Relay for Life • By Daniella Judge INSPIRED BY last year’s Doing Good campaign run by the school council, Lincoln High students have formed a team of 27 to take part in the annual Relay for Life fundraiser at Brookside Park, Rolleston. The Doing Good campaign was set up to encourage students to do all they could for the good of others and specifically promote participation in events that fundraise for charity. It raised over $40,000 in the first year. Team captain and co-organiser Tessa English said she got involved after seeing what an amazing job the Lincoln High team did last year and deciding she wanted to continue that again. “Not only to support the Cancer Society but to encourage students to get involved in great causes like this too, especially because they play such a huge role in our community,” she said. Co-organiser Nicole Spriggs said she was involved because she wanted to make a difference. “Earlier this year I went to Camp Quality and saw how LAwyERS GOOD DEEDS: A Lincoln High School team will take part in the Relay for Life. cancer effected these children so greatly, yet they still had a smile on their faces and this influenced me,” she said. Relay for Life is an event that celebrates survivors and remembers loved ones that have been lost to cancer. Every year thousands of people around New Zealand come together in their communities to raise awareness and financial support for cancer victims with all donations going to the Cancer Society. The event takes part over two days and each team has at least one team member walking the track over the 18 hours to symbolise the constant struggles cancer sufferers face. The Lincoln High School Team pledge to have at least three team members walking the track during the daylight hours at least two team members during the night, and they will put on a school bake sale to raise money for the cause. All members of the public are welcome to attend the event to show their support. •To donate search Lincoln High School 2017 on the Relay for Life website. 2017/18 Annual Plan We have over 40 years’ experience to assist you with… • Buying and Selling Houses and Commercial Property • Wills, Trusts and Estate matters • All issues facing you and your business; • Employment Law matters; • Traffic matters; • Advice regarding Retirement Villages • General Legal Advice on all matters Call John, Brendan or Andrew today 03 366 8996 Email. It is that time of year when all the councils, including Environment Canterbury, will be asking the community for feedback on the annual plan for the coming financial year (2017/18). You should see information from your local council about how to give feedback on planned activity close to home - and you are invited by Environment Canterbury to give feedback on activity proposed across the region outlined in our draft Annual Plan. We work closely with your local council on many projects but we do cover different activity so it is important to engage in both processes if you want to have a say. For the Environment Canterbury plan: ▪ Visit, view the short summary document and/or the full draft 2017/18 Annual Plan and use the online form to send your feedback in ▪ Email to arrange a time to talk to Councillors in May ▪ Pick up a hard copy summary and form from your local Environment Canterbury office. Please note, the closing date for feedback or to request a time to meet with Environment Canterbury Councillors is 5pm on Friday 21 April.
