WAIHORA ARE still alive in their
defence of the Combined Country
Cup after sneaking into the
play-offs with a final round-robin
match win over Saracens 20-16.
The match at Tai Tapu Domain
served as a winner take all playoff
berth. Coming into the game
Waihora were in fifth place behind
Saracens, which occupied the final
play-off spot in section 1.
“It was like a finals footy game
and it brought out the best in the
guys,” said Waihora coach Joff
Moore.
The home team held a 10-6 lead
at half-time and were never given
much room to breathe by Saracens
which were also desperate to book a

“The last five minutes was tense,
they had a lot of the ball but our
defence was able to force errors,”
said Moore.
Waihora will now travel to their
nemesis club Southbridge on
Saturday in a rematch of last year’s
final.
“They’ve gone through the competition
unbeaten and it will be
tough, but they’re in the finals now
and it all starts again,” said Moore.

“There was an issue with the architects
plans which impacted on the noise levels
of the bar and restaurant,” says owner
Murray Davie.
“We had customers kindly bring this
to our attention, which is great because it
means they are really invested in the place
and love calling it their own. As a result
we have gone ahead and remedied the
issue.”
New sound ceiling baffles have been
installed which have made a difference
in reducing the noise for all those who
go there to enjoy a meal, have a coffee or
meet up with friends for a drink.
This is just in time, as the Silver Dollar
started its quiz nights last week which saw
teams take part in the Believe It or Not
quiz – now a weekly feature of the
bar and restaurant.
The Silver Dollar opened earlier this
year after owners Murray and Bernie
Taylor spent two years planning and
developing the establishment.
One thing is clear – the owners really
listen to their customers.
“We are really proud of this place and
we want the people of Selwyn to be proud
of it too, so we hope they continue to let
us know of the things they love about it
and the things that need improving. After
