Exciting designs<br />
submitted<br />
for playhouse<br />
THREE EXCITING designs have been<br />
revealed by the successful entrants in this<br />
year’s playhouse challenge, a special feature<br />
of the <strong>2017</strong> <strong>Star</strong> Home & Leisure Show.<br />
Fusion Homes with Scratch Architecture,<br />
Irving Builders with PXA Architects<br />
and Pound Road Trading will each build<br />
a specially-designed playhouse to be auctioned<br />
at the show on Saturday, July 1.<br />
<strong>The</strong> auction will raise money for local<br />
charities Birthright Canterbury and Tenants<br />
Protection Association Christchurch.<br />

see the playhouse<br />
challenge as a<br />
perfect fit for the<br />
charities.<br />
“While TPA’s<br />
main focus is on supporting people with<br />
housing issues, keeping a consistent roof<br />
over people’s heads is also very much a part<br />
of the work Birthright Canterbury does in<br />
strengthening single parent families.”<br />
<strong>Star</strong> Media is the major sponsor of the<br />
playhouse challenge, which is also being<br />
supported by Priority Communications,<br />
Wyma Engineering, Resene, Robertson<br />
Creative, and Dave Richards Photography.<br />
“<strong>The</strong>se aren’t regular children’s playhouses,”<br />
<strong>Star</strong> Media general manager Steve<br />
McCaughan said. “<strong>The</strong>y will be judged on<br />
their architectural design and construction,<br />
as well as how much fun they are for kids.”<br />
“We are delighted that the playhouse<br />
challenge will be part of this year’s <strong>Star</strong><br />
Home & Leisure Show and are hoping<br />
there will be plenty of interest from buyers.<br />
We are big supporters of Birthright Canterbury<br />
and TPA, who have been looking<br />
after Canterbury people for many years.”<br />
Playhouse challenge judges will include<br />
Birthright Canterbury chair Jane Lancaster,<br />
TPA board member Robin Tinga,<br />
architect John McGrail from Dalman<br />
Architects and early childhood educator<br />
Blanche Head.<br />
<strong>The</strong> playhouse challenge was inspired by<br />
Australia’s popular cubby house challenge,<br />
which this year raised well over $100,000<br />
for the charity Kids Under Cover.<br />
