Bamford School welcomed their new
principal Shona Hewlett to the school in
term 3, 2017. Shona brings with her a
wealth of experience having successfully
lead two previous schools to a 4-5 year
return from ERO. Shona is looking
forward to the exciting times ahead for
Bamford School in 2018.
Bamford is a small school with a family
/ whanau feel where everyone looks out
for each other and the whole staff know
all students and their families / whanau.
Our staff work collaboratively to provide
an education where strong values, high
expectations and striving for excellence
are at the heart of the curriculum.
Our teaching and learning focuses on
giving students real life experiences to
raise achievement across all curriculum
areas.
There are many opportunities for
our students to feel success in the
arts, culture, sports, academics and
leadership.
We are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for
Learning) school which means we focus
on rewarding positive behaviours.
Our small class sizes enable us to
focus on the individaul learning for all
students.
We look forwad to welcoming new
enrolments for 2018.
Junior GaTE
Project :
Community
Action
Back to
The junior GaTE (Gifted and Talented)
group at Mairehau High School has
been working on a project looking at
the needs of our community. One Year 9
student, Caley Gopperth, chose to focus
on the increasing rate of the homeless
in our city. She began by looking at the
idea of putting together an emergency
kit. From there she researched what
would be required and began pricing up
all of the items.
She wrote to a number of companies
asking for support and donations. We
are very grateful to The Warehouse,
K-Mart, Cookie Time, Warehouse
Stationery and Ferrymead Dental for
their support.
Caley also fundraised making and
selling packs of cheese rolls and Thai
pumpkin soup to the staff.
Caley thought it would be best to work
alongside the City Mission. She was
lucky enough to be shown around the
new City Mission by Gray Crawford, the
Social Services Manager. He spoke with
her about the backgrounds and needs
of their clients. Caley was told about
the new women’s 12-bed overnight
refuge that is about to open. From this
discussion Caley was able to make the
decision to focus the backpacks and
items on the needs of these women.
Caley and her teacher, Ms Marshall,
will be delivering the bags to the City
Mission next week, who will then ensure
they get to the right women. This has
been a very successful and rewarding
project for Caley.
