34 Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Back to Thursday January 18 2018 school Hilmorton High School At Hillmorton High School, a Year 7-13 composite school, our students start their journey in Year 7 experiencing “Base Camp” for 17 hours each week where they learn advancing skills in Reading, Writing and Mathematics through and alongside an integrated curriculum. In their other eight hours they go to “Explore” classes taught by high school teachers. In Explore they experience the full curriculum in the Arts (Art, Music, Drama, Dance), Languages (Sign Language, Te Reo Māori, Japanese and Spanish), Science, Physical Education and Technology (Food, Textiles, Hard Materials, Digital Technology). The Explore choices narrow somewhat in Year 9 and again by the end of their Middle Schooling in Year 10. Our students narrow their choices based on what they love and what they are skilled at. Following this leads to meaningful Vocational Pathways in the Senior School and beyond.
