The motel dates from the 1970s<br />
and offers affordable self-catering<br />
accommodation, ranging from superior<br />
to standard and family to single<br />
bedroom units. All units have fully<br />
equipped kitchens, flat screen TV, Sky<br />
TV, free WiFi, and there are large central<br />
heating convectors for cosy warmth<br />
in winter.<br />
In summer, the free gas barbecue is a<br />
popular amenity after a day of cycling,<br />
sightseeing or wine tasting! The Antique<br />
Lodge Motel is just a short stroll from<br />
Clyde’s impressive historic precinct<br />
where delightful cafés, restaurants and<br />
shops are housed in many of the town’s<br />
heritage buildings.<br />
Exploring Central<br />
Otago by bike<br />
Scenic, historic and peppered with some<br />
of our best vineyards, Central Otago has<br />
become a mecca for cyclists of all ages.<br />
There’s no better way to explore the district,<br />
than to team up with Bike It Now! Based<br />
in the historic town of Clyde and centrally<br />
located for people to ride all of the region’s<br />
trails, Bike It Now! is owned and operated<br />
by Duncan, Fletch and Lisa, all residents<br />
of Clyde.<br />
Bike It Now! offers top-quality cycle hire,<br />
full day (One Day Wonders!) and multi-day<br />
tours, which accommodate riders of all<br />
abilities. Their fleet comprises 29 and 27.5<br />
inch Avanti and Scott bikes with features<br />
such as ergonomic grips, hydraulic disc<br />
brakes, puncture-resistant tyres, drop down<br />
panniers, high-spec componentry and,<br />
yes, plush-padded seats! Scott E-bikes are<br />
another addition to the fleet, providing<br />
increased power via E Technology supplied<br />
by Bosch if your own pedal power is not<br />
quite enough!<br />
There are also kids’ bikes, seats, tandems<br />
and “tow-behinds” so that families can get on<br />
their bikes, too. Bike It Now! is also an Avanti,<br />
Scott and Trek authorised dealer, selling a<br />
wide range of bikes and accessories required<br />
by cyclists – this is complemented by a full<br />
workshop. The company operates seven days<br />
a week, and is only closed on Christmas Day<br />
and New Year’s Day.<br />
Briefs on our trails<br />
Wedderburn Fantastic Ride – SPECIAL<br />
operating May 1 to December 15<br />
• This two-day delight via Poolburn<br />
Gorge includes transport to Wedderburn,<br />
overnight stay in Lauder with a<br />
pre-dinner platter and bottle of Central<br />
Otago Pinot<br />
• 152km Otago Central Rail Trail, the<br />
original great ride – you can do one of our<br />
“One Day Wonders” or two-day “Fantastic<br />
Rides” if on a time limit, otherwise three<br />
to five days is the way to go!<br />
• 34km Roxburgh Gorge Trail, this is<br />
probably New Zealand’s premier<br />
one-day recreational cycle trail. It is like<br />
being in another world. It links well with<br />
the Clutha Gold Trail to allow for threedays<br />
riding from Alexandra (Clyde)<br />
to Lawrence.<br />
• 73km Clutha Gold Trail from Roxburgh<br />
Dam to Lawrence follows the mighty<br />
Clutha River.<br />
