Delray Under $50
Now that Delray Beach is a rising star in the art, culture and social scene,
it might seem a little difficult to find affordable activities, shops or
restaurants. I am here to prove you wrong. Delray Beach
offers a mix of high-end boutiques with laid-back
restaurants, and events for the whole family or
nightclubs for night owls. Here is what you can do
in Delray Beach in February for $50 or less.
Yes, I wanted to be a librarian so I could introduce myself as
Darien the Librarian. No, it didn’t happen. But, my love for
books and the library is still as strong as ever! February is
Library Lovers Month and I invite you to fall in love with the Delray
Beach Public Library. What’s so cool about our library is that
they offer more than just books. Not only do they feature local art,
meeting centers, and have special events, they also offer classes for
personal growth and development. Their Lifelong Learning Community
Institute brings you the Whole Brain Workout course, and
the results are guaranteed to pay in dividends. If you feel like you’re
losing your edge, instructor Barbara Klau will give you easy to learn,
educationally valid memory enhancement strategies that will help
you feel more empowered and in control. You will not only understand
your own learning style, but you will also learn the techniques
that work for you. The workout exercises focus on different aspects
of memory and a number of different areas will be covered, in addition
to discussing and practicing memory retention strategies. This
enjoyable, interactive course will improve your ability to remember,
and give you trips and tricks for continuing your training after the
course is complete. The four-session course is held February 7, 14,
28 and March 7 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and costs $50 per person. Fall in
love with your library! The Delray Beach Public Library is located at
100 W. Atlantic Ave. Visit www.delraylibrary.org or call (561) 266-
0194 for more information and to register.
We officially have January under our belt, so you should
still be working on your resolutions, or at least making
strides to not fail on them tomorrow. If you are still striving
to improve your nights out, or at least make more time for yourself,
I have you covered. February is National Time Management
Month and this is a great opportunity to head downtown for the
First Friday Art Walk. Held February 2, the Walk is a great way to
experience an evening of art, education and relaxation in the artistic
side of our downtown. The self-guided tour (aka you) will lead
you through the art galleries and working studios along Atlantic
Avenue, Pineapple Grove and Artists Alley. You will have the opportunity
to meet and greet with our local artists and learn about
their inspirations, goals and plans for art. Did you know there are
more than 30 local galleries and working studios within walking
distance? Yep! So put on your walking shoes and take a peek in
Avalon Gallery, Sarin Design, Arts Warehouse, Janet Siegel Rogers
Studio, Gallery at Studio 5, Addison Gallery, and many more. The
Walk is held from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month,
and the best part is that it’s free! So make time to enjoy your local
downtown and have fun learning from our local artists. Visit www.
downtowndelraybeach.com or call (561) 243-1077 for more information
and a complete list of galleries and studios.
Relationships: can’t live with them, and can’t live without
them. If you want to get a different perspective on your
relationship, you’re in luck because the Delray Beach Playhouse
has a great play to either end the arguments or create new
ones. February is Relationship Wellness Month and you’re privy to
the Off-Broadway hit comedy, Men are From Mars – Women Are
From Venus. This one-man fusion of theater and stand-up is a lighthearted
theatrical comedy based on the New York Times No. 1 bestselling
book of the last decade by John Gray. Moving swiftly through
a series of vignettes, the performance covers everything from dating
to marriage to the bedroom. Maybe you’ll see yourself or your
partner on stage, or maybe not. That’s the fun of it! The 90-minute
show is sexy and fast-paced, suitable only for adults. But, you’re
sure to leave feeling like kids who can laugh at themselves and how
ridiculous their partner’s actions are, and enjoy a different type of
date night. The Delray Beach Playhouse is celebrating more than
70 years in business so it’s safe to say they know how to show the
audience a good time. Tickets are $50 per person and the play runs
from February 23-25. The Delray Beach Playhouse is located at 950
N.W. Ninth St. Visit www.delraybeachplayhouse.com or call (561)
272-1281 for more information.
