Although it’s been (incredibly) pleasant since the weather
has been much cooler, it is undoubtedly going to get hot
again. Instead of hitting the pavement searching for the
breeze, take a seat under an umbrella and watch other people
do the sweating for you. February is Beat the Heat Month and
is a great time to enjoy a few chilled adult beverages and a nice
breeze while others serve and volley their way to a sweaty win.
The Delray Beach Open is held February 16 to the 25 at the
Delray Beach Tennis Center and is the world’s only ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Champions Tour Event featuring
tennis legends and top-ranked ATP players. The schedule
builds up to the finals on the last weekend. If you have the time
to watch the entire event, you’ve got a lot of exciting tennis on
your hands. Ticket prices start around $40 for reserved seats,
per day, which is a pretty fabulous deal considering you’ll be in
the presence of Raonic, Del Potro, Karlovic, the Bryan brothers,
Sock, Anderson, and many more notable players. The event is
televised nationally on the Tennis Channel, and internationally
in more countries than you can count, so it’s kind of a big deal.
The Delray Beach Tennis Center is located at 201 W. Atlantic
Ave. Visit www.yellowtennisball.com or call (561) 330-6000
for more information and to purchase tickets.
Success – what is it and what does it mean to you? Some
might consider it wealth, health, freedom, or self-fulfillment.
Whatever your pleasure, we can at least thank the
artists who consider it probably a mix of self-fulfillment, freedom
and (fingers crossed!) wealth. February is International
Expect Success Month and is a great time to not only focus on
your personal success, but also congratulate and appreciate
others for working toward theirs. The Cornell Art Museum
brings us the Art on the Square Fine Art Show, which is back
for its second year. The two-day premier juried outdoor gallery
features extraordinary, original art works by more than 100
fine art artists and fine craft artists from around the country.
You can expect to see paintings, glass, ceramics, fiber art, jewelry,
metal work, photography, woodwork, and multi-media
sculpture. Take a few hours out of your weekend and peruse
the artistic success of local and traveling artists, enjoy live music
and gourmet refreshments, and possibly leave with a new
piece of art for your home. The Show is held February 10 and
11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. The Cornell Art
Museum is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave. Visit www.oldschool.
org or call (561) 243-7922 for more information.
