BUSINESS CHANGE
AHEAD
There is more space
available to let to
businesses in Uckfield,
following the closure of
a couple of businesses.
Carpetright, which
occupies units 6/7 on Bell
Lane has announced that
it will shortly be leaving
the town. Chris Lawson
of Lawson Commercial
says that the units have
new owners an that they
‘intend to refurbish the
units and will be seeking
a new occupier. These two
intercommunicating units
offer just over 8,000 sq ft
of handy retail space with
a good size customer car
park in the front’.
Meanwhile, on the High
Street, the unit formerly
known as ‘Cuckoo’ at
number 75 is once again
available. Says Chris ‘It
was perhaps unfortunate
that the gentleman
concerned appeared to be
a bit under capitalised and
didn’t get his marketing
strategy quite right. I still
believe that this would be
a good facility to have in
the town, but the premises
do offer good retail
accommodation and could
easily revert to a shop. The
premises comprise some
700 sq ft on the ground
floor with a useful 1st
floor of just under 400 sq
ft all available on a new
lease at £16,500 pa.’ For

SYSTEMS AID HEARING
AND VISUALLY
IMPAIRED
The award-winning
cinema recently installed
a digital wireless system
to assist with hearingimpaired
customers
and audio description
for visually impaired
customers (where it is
available for a film),
through the use of a
headset. Most main
release films have an
audio description track
available, although not
all smaller release films
do. Most ‘Arts on Screen’
events, unfortunately, will
not have this functionality.
Rachel Tout from the
cinema said: “As this
is a digital system, and
we lend you a headset
to use to hear the audio
description track, we are
not limited to specific
screenings – you can come
along to pretty much any
screening. Just explain to
a member of staff at the
counter that you require
the audio description
track on a headset. If you
want to check in advance
whether a film has an
audio description track,
then please feel free to
email me in advance, and
I can check this for you.”
The system is very new, so
the cinema advises calling
ahead in advance to make
sure there is someone
on hand to introduce the
system to you.

A Wealden District
Council survey has
revealed that nine out of
ten Wealden residents
like living here, and three
quarters are satisfied
with the way the District
Council runs things.
